Default Your favorite & effective DIY hand sanitizer recipe

Anyone have a DIY hand sanitizer spray or gel recipe they like? I would rather not use store bought because they make my hands crack and because of the artificial fragrances.

I'd be interested to follow along but have no recipes for you.

However, have you ever tried Clean Well? This is what we primarily use at the moment. We use the foam pump. We buy in bulk from Amazon because it's a bit cheaper but they also sell singles for trying...though I find them way pricy.

I add OnGuard essential oil blend to a small spray bottle with water, some fractionated coconut oil, and a little aloe vera if I have it.

You can also use vodka.

It's usually the alcohol that causes cracking, though, so I don't use the alcohol-based recipes.

Think I could replace any alcohol with witch hazel in the recipes I've found?

Oh, there's also another thread about this on the board: http://www.gentlechristianmothers.co...d.php?t=517190

I'd love to try making some, too.

My guess would be that you could.

I don't know if it is true or not, but my pharmacy friend told me that she doesn't use sanitizer at all. She used nonscented baby wipes. According to her, it not what is on the wipe but the wiping motion itself that rids germs.

just thought I would throw that out there.

I love the idea of a natural hand sanitizer but I'm concerned that perhaps you wouldn't know if it actually works or not. Is there a way you could test it? Something with petri dishes or something?

I would be interested in any results of any one of study for sure.

I am a slight germ-a-phobe. It is risidual from an upbringing with a severely immune compromised sibling. I have come a long long way but now that I am working in a large center and interacting with 100 or so toddlers/preschoolers and their equipment I want to take precautions.

I made the foaming recipe last night and added witch hazel for an extra measure but it is flakier than I wanted and still have to wash it off my hands. It didn't dry very quickly. I may keep it in my work bag as an extra measure tho.

My boss actually just placed an orde for a carton of simple baby wipes to keep in our storage closet. She was a bit Ickes out wig the hygiene of some of my coworkers who didn't wash their hands or wipe off equipment as frequently as she wanted.

I only use my homemade, EO hand sanitizer when I've been tending the chickens or cleaning the cat box. I wash my hands with a thorough scrubbing then spray on the EOs. I am a firm believer in the Hygiene Hypothesis.
