Default Range vs. wall oven and cooktop

We are planning a kitchen remodel and trying to decide on our oven style. I would really like a double oven, but it takes up a lot of space. Any input welcome!

How often would you actually use both ovens?

My mom had a standing range that had two sections, that she liked. When she had a double oven she used both at least once a month. In my mind this oftern makes it worth the space loss.

My mother inlaw I think only uses both of hers twice in the 8 years she has been that house. There is no way that I think it is worth it but she has a huge kitchen that she hardly used.

I definitely want a double oven and were we doing a remodel, I'd try to get one included. But I use the oven a lot in meal prep, often different dishes where I need to try to finagle to make both types work in one oven.

We currently have a cooktop/wall oven. It was here when we bought the house.

Whether I'd do that or the range option in a remodel would depend on a few factors:

1. cost is the biggest ones. At least when I looked, built in ovens are far more expensive than the free standing ones. So I may compromise on the free standing due to budget
2. kitchen layout -- for example, in our kitchen we have an island -- the cooktop is in that. It's a really nice set up -- and the layout of the kitchen really calls for the cooktop. However, other configurations may lend itself better for the free standing.

I definitely want a large range and double oven when we move. But I bake and cook all the time.

We are planning on one of those ranges with two smaller ovens. Would that be an option for you?

I have a couple of friends with a double-oven range and for the most part, they are well-liked. One friend says she uses the top oven, which is smaller primarily during the day (for reheating or smaller servings) and the larger oven for dinner, when she's cooking for more people. The larger oven will hold a decent sized turkey, but not the biggest she would like to roast when she has lots of family over.

My parents had double wall ovens in their last house with the cooktop right next to it. I loved being able to bake two different things at the same time, but both ovens were small, so if I wanted to bake a double batch of biscuits (for our traditional Biscuits and Gravy breakfast!), I had to use both ovens to get them done in time. They also wouldn't hold the size sheet pans I use at home in my range oven, which means I can bake more cookies at once than my mom could. Having the cooktop right next to the ovens was HOT, though and made me feel a bit claustrophobic. If I had it to create for myself, I'd have at least a couple of induction burners on an island. But I cook a lot.

Wall ovens seem to be narrower in my observation. That's another reason I prefer a range.

I think if we end up hosting Thanksgivings etc I would buy an electric roaster for the turkey.

.
Any are but I think there are 'full size' that will fit a half sheet pan. I had a ln aquatence who was trying to renovate her kitchen and she was talking about full size double oven. But knowing her they might cost more than I would have to budget for a house.

I dislike my wall oven because it's not as big as a range oven.

We rented a house that had a range and a wall oven. That was great!

Electric roasters don't get the turkey skin crisp, if that's important. A lot of steam builds up.

When we re-do our kitchen (which may never happen, by the time we have the money there may be just 2 of us living here and then it won't matter) I am getting a range with a full-size oven plus the small oven. Or, maybe I'll just get a regular range and a large toaster oven.

Also, they make some really big toaster ovens, now. And a large air fryers can be used to bake many items. Just some ideas.

We've looked into the double oven ranges, it doesn't seem like a good option for me because I have a bad back and the lower oven door opens flat on the floor. I just don't think that would be practical for me. I would use both ovens a lot, I think. I would guess a couple times a month. I complain about not having enough oven space at least that often.

We're doing a complete gut of our kitchen and taking down walls so it will be a completely new layout. One of the cabinet designers suggested a range and a single wall oven. It still takes up a lot of space, but it would be cheaper than a cooktop and double oven.

I loved that combo in the one house that had it. It was great.

We've had two double oven stoves. Is that what they are called? lol

One small one on top that heats to 350 in 3 minutes and 1 bigger one. I used the smaller one 95% of the time. LOVED THEM. Miss it.
