help me clean our tub...
It looks awful no matter how much I clean it. were getting this weird brownish pinkish staining around the drains and the walls and just" dirt that I can seem to clean. This house isn't that old our stuff shouldn't be looking like this now. Whats even stranger is our second bath is "fine" despite that one being where the kids get baths showers and tracking in far more dirt and junk than ours.. here is a picture of it after being cleaned. Ive tried soo many things both natural and conventional but nothing really helps. HELP!

Re: help me clean our tub...
I will be following!
We have hard/well water & a fiberglass tub...and have similar issues of it being hard to get it looking sparkly clean. The Works does do the trick, but I swear I feel it giving me cancer as I use it. (Haven't used it in a long time!) |

Re: help me clean our tub...
Total confession but after reading i thought i have a bottle of works toliet cleaner... Not much left but i squirted some in especially around the dark staining let do its thing for a few then scrubbed. With gloves and mask. It is totally working. Im seriously considering getting more so i can get this thing clean then see about helping maintain with more natural solutions.

Re: help me clean our tub...
4 the bathrooms in one of the houses we lived in, it works was truly the only thing that really work. I'm thankful that in this tub, the Magic Eraser knock-off works wonders.

Re: help me clean our tub...
I have an old tub, but I discovered that using dawn and heated up vinegar works amazingly well. I used the extra strength dawn dishsoap last time I did it, and it was the cleanest our tub has ever been I sprayed it on and let it sit for a while, then used a scrubber sponge to scrub, then rinsed.

this was after using the works.. best it has been pretty much since we moved in.. So yea I have a clean tub.. However I do NOT wanting to be using such a harsh chemical treatment on a normal basis. 1-2 a year maybe but not monthly or weekly. I'd love to see if I can't now use something much more gentle (like the dawn and vinegar) to help maintain this...

Re: help me clean our tub...
It sounds like you have a pipe that is rusty inside. Take a look at the cleaners that say they take care of rust. Our problem was really bad b/c for a while we had a leak and water was constantly dripping and splashing all over the tub. What finally did the job was a Clorox gel spray type cleaner, one of those thin blue scrubby pads with a very careful use of a copper scrubber (like the steel wool). We still have one small spot that won't come up, but I think we will just live with it because I am tired of dealing with it.
I honestly think that if if you don't want to deal with harsh chemicals on a frequent basis, you might have to learn to live with it. That is what people did before harsh chemicals. Although, I did have a brief thought that I've seen people use coke or pepsi to take rust off some car parts, so I wonder...but I never got around to trying it.

Re: help me clean our tub...
I did buy/use some ?CLR (calcium/lime/rust) cleaner last time......it didn't work nearly as well as The Works. I am not sure what is in that stuff.....magic toxicity, I guess? ..

Re: help me clean our tub...
I've used straight washing soda (not baking soda) on tough bathtub stains with great results. Just use gloves if you try it as its pretty caustic straight out of the container.
How well does your tub drain? It looks like the water is pooling at one side of the drain which could cause it to stain faster. |

Re: help me clean our tub...
I wonder if after getting it as clean as you can if wiping some car polish or something similar on it would repel whatever is causing the stains? That might not work but it is where my brain went.

Re: help me clean our tub...
If it repels water, it'll also be slick and that would be dangerous in a tub.

Re: help me clean our tub...
It sounds like you may have higher iron content in your water, I would look for cleaning solutions that address that (there should be some near the borax and water softening cleaners).
