Default Re: If you're kids do their own laundry and you prefer white's to be bleached

Does not answer your question, but might help anyway...
My kids do their own laundry (well, my youngest two have someone else do theirs ) But, I wash the socks all together. It does not take that long to sort. How we sort socks - two baskets: one for the load of socks and underwear, one empty. Each kid takes a turn getting socks. One kid at a time. He picks up the socks out of the full basket. If the sock is not his, the sock goes in the empty basket. If it is his, he puts it in a pile or holds onto it. When he has gone through the entire basket, he puts away his socks, and the next kid goes in. It is really fast. Especially if we go oldest to youngest.

I don't bleach, but I do use a sanitize cycle and the socks go in filthy and muddy, but come out white.

Reallifemama I love your sorting system. I may have to implement it.

socks are the only article of white clothing that I don't care if they get dingy. I only wear white socks for exercise or hiking.

Maybe white socks could be all the same very stretchy socks for everyone, then let them have a central basket of clean where you keep your shoes and a central basket for dirty that they could use or ignore if they want to keep their own stash.

My kids feet are close enough to the same size that I bought six packages and now they all match. My life is much happier. No pairing. Pick up. Pair. They match.

Pro to secondary infertility. I count every one of these little things.

That is hillarious. I give up on my kids because they all wear mismatched and it's not a battle worth fighting.

I just wash my white socks by themselves.

I am completely obsessive about socks being paired properly, even white socks that look like that almost match. My husband just pairs them. NO.

My feet must wear matching socks.

This thread....

Let's just say that a few friends in school used to teasingly call me "Socks Mix-a-lot" because I just could not be bothered to make sure they matched. They were always the same style but I really didn't care if they were the same color or pattern.

Default Re: If you're kids do their own laundry and you prefer white's to be bleached

Matching socks isn't as in fashion as it used to be. I could wear different colors, but not different styles because they would feel different.

MIL used to, and occasionally will still, buy the kids packs of socks where nearly every pair was a different color. I couldn't use them but once per pair and it would just make my laundry pile bigger and harder to manage. They would tempt me to not do laundry if I only needed socks if I had a never-worn pair of socks she bought so I had to not even bring them home and only use a matching stash I bought. (You'd think just telling her I couldn't use them would be the obvious step here, but it had no effect on her buying decisions and it took me years to figure out the problem was not that I didn't state it clearly enough.)

This dated back to before it was okay to mismatch socks. If I'd just brought ds to her house ten years ago in mismatched socks, I'd have had a free source of socks all these years because she'd have asserted her control over whether my kids wore mismatched socks by buying them all matching ones like I do now.

My socks must match not for looks but for feel, even socks that were all bought at the same time will wear difrent and bother me. My socks are a mix darn tuff and hand knit so they are easily identifiable. Dh's scocks all get paired as they come off his feet and go in to the dirty clothes with these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...&tag=zoodro-20 The girls scocks I just match up, but we may go with parking dirty ones.

My DH is very particular about socks. He has work socks and non-work socks, and winter socks vs. summer socks. Some socks he wears inside out on purpose because they feel better that way, etc. when we first got married I once :gasp sorted them as I put them away, but that is not allowed. Apparently it's an important part of his morning routine to rummage through a bag (yes a bag, not a drawer) of socks to find just the right pair for whatever the weather and situation is for that day.
I just roll with it now.
He genuinely gets giddy when his mom and grandma buy socks, and was sad one year when he didn't get any new ones for Christmas. Never again, buddy! Now I know what to get him for any occasion.

---------- Post added at 01:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:27 PM ----------

I should add in that he does like them clean, but doesn't care about color/brightness.
