Default What are your favorite health and diet books?

I have started a new blog - I have yet to decorate it or design it but I put in today's post - the blog is called: If Books Could Make Me Thin and Healthy:
365 days of books about health and diet
and here is a bit from today's post:
"I am going to spend 365 days reading health and diet books – some new ones and some old favorites, giving quotes and techniques that I have employed that day. Perhaps reading and writing about health and diet books will help me to become thin and healthy. At least, I hope it will encourage me to put more of what I read into practice."
I am using books that I already own because I bought them or got them for free on my kindle and books that I can get from the library for free. I would love book suggestions! As long as I can get it from one of my 3 local libraries or on an interlibrary loan, I am ok with it. If the book is so obscure that I would have to buy it, I am not going to do so at this time. Because - money.
So, here is the first post
https://danabjornstad.wordpress.com/
Please share your favorite health, diet and exercise books with me! Thanks

I like "The Maker's Diet" although it's been many many years since I read it.

It depends on your philosophy, but I like

the China Study
the Campbell Plan
the Engine2 Diet

I believe in a whole foods plant-based diet and that is what those books advocate

Interesting experiment . . . it sounds like a great way to make one's head spin. Just like with parenting, there are thousands of so-called experts & few of them seem to agree.

I second The China Study.

Feel free to ignore my bratty request, but if you are on FB, could you make a page and then link to your blog entries from there? I would love to follow along but I know I will forget about the blog if I have to bookmark it.

Alternatively, I suppose I could pin your blog on Pinterest so I don't lose the link. Facebook might help you reach more readers, though.

---------- Post added at 09:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:32 AM ----------

I couldn't figure out the pin thing.

Great blog post. Sugar as inflammation causing is something I should think about more often. I also liked the nickname you gave chocolate.

My fave diet books include Transformation, Body for Life, and How to Eat Away Arthritis. Recently I have been reading The Paleo Approach and the Paleo Approach Cookbook but they are more specific to an autoimmune paleo diet.

I will link it to facebook as soon as I figure out how to. I am going to do an online class on how to make a wordpress blog that starts July 15 - it is a free 6 week class and I am hoping to learn how to do the blog without having to figure it all out on my own. It is a GALE online learning class that I am taking through the library that I work at. I want to do it to learn how the classes work and to learn how to do a blog properly.
I will look into all of the books y'all have listed so far.
I know it can make your head spin, I have been reading these books for years and they are often totally contradictory. There are some things they tend to agree on and I want to find those areas and find what works best for me - if anything will.

Yep, they are soooo contradictory. But yeah, there are some common themes that everyone can get on board with. My . . . I first look into the author to find out how long he/she has been living that way. One year, three years? Give me someone who is thriving 30 years later, then you've got my attention.

That is a factor but also look for studies published in real scientific journals like JAMA, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Lancet, etc. And see how the studies were designed.

And some diets (won't mention names here ) seem to work well at first and you lose weight but then it's really taxing on your kidneys, heart, liver, etc, and people have trouble later on down the road.

"Sugar Blues" is an older book but a classic.
"Taking Up Space" by Amber ... can't remember her last name.
