Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
What would you do?
If a child in the home had a weaker than usual immune system (nothing terribly chronic, just catches viruses etc... easier and is sick longer than the rest of the fam).. and someone else (like a parent) was a Strep carrier... and then therefore the child was more susceptible to catching strep (and already has a few times in the last 6 months)... what would you do? I am preparing for the Ped to tell us to have a tonsillectomy.. but I know that won't solve the problem... can abx cure the strep carrier??? I dont know much about this...

IME we have been able to treat and heal Strep infections with natural remedies so I dont know why it wouldnt work for what you are describing also.Does the person or child you are referring to have tonsil "stones" ? http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.c...t-antibiotics/

Re: Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
Well, maybe I'm wrong This afternoon the rapid test for this bout of illness came up negative for strep... but Dr wouldn't do a culture to be sure. He just said to keep track of how many times he gets sick Duh.. I've been doing that!! And of course, his answer was eventually to do a tonsillectomy

He does seem to have a dairy allergy... we go to the allergist in 2 weeks, but he's been off dairy for about a year. I'm hoping to narrow down his exact food issues and see some improvement in his immune system. Is it totally ironic that I let him eat dairy for the first time in many months last Friday and then he got sick Sunday?

Re: Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
Do you know if the child has allergies? My children that have been really susceptible to viruses have had both food and environmental allergies, and treating the allergies with allergy shots and medication has really helped to boost their immune systems. With my 10yo dd, we saw a huge improvement in her health when we started allergy treatment. Before treatment, she was constantly sick - she caught EVERYTHING that went around, and it hit her harder than most others.

Re: Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
My brother was a carrier and I was a yo-yo strep case until I went away to college... They finally caught it and treated him and I haven't had it again even when he lived with us and even when the kids were in public school. ( Can the person who is a carrier not be treated for some reason? If they can't then I would ask their doctor for alternative options for treatment.) I am still sickly, though as my gut heals some I have been getting over things bit faster, so whenever hubby's Dr catches that he is a carrier of something he asks him to treat it to help protect me. My body can't always handle the meds to treat some things so prevention is often my best bet as hospitalization for problem 1 is like opening Pandora's box.

Re: Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
Squiddles I used a half ACV ,half water for my dd when she was younger and the key seemed to be having her gargle as many times in a row as you can get them too - 12 x is optimal. But I dont think we hit that mark.Have you found a way to express the tonsil stones? if so would express them as much as you can and then do the gargling yourself or the other remedy involving the cayenne.

Re: Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
I am not allergic to dairy. But, I definitely react to it. I just always find it interesting that removing tonsils is a step but finding out why the tonsils are reacting isn't. They are an alert system saying hey something your putting in me isn't working

Re: Strep carrier living with child w/weak immune system
also if a strep bug is being harbored in tonsils a quick throat swab may not be sufficient
