Re: Potato / Sweet Potato
I recently substituted sweet potatoes and turnip for white potatoes in a recipe. The combo was a good substitute in my borscht.

Re: Potato / Sweet Potato
From the Paleo Mom website: "There is also evidence that diets high in potatoes, in particular, result in increased markers of inflammation (this could also be due to the carbohydrate load that potatoes provide and not an effect of the glycoalkaloids themselves). Glycoalkaloid poisoning can occur with excessive consumption of nightshade vegetables, and many researchers have hypothesized that the low level toxic exposure from more moderate consumption of nightshades can contribute to a variety of health condition" http://www.thepaleomom.com/2012/08/t...-protocol.html
There are good reasons to cut out potatoes - I have seen a marked decrease in joint pains since I did. |

Re: Potato / Sweet Potato
You can find something bad/dangerous about every single food. Even strawberries. Eating too much of any one food isn't a good idea, IMO. Eating a wide variety of foods that agree with you is what we have found to be best after a world-tour of various health protocols.

Re: Potato / Sweet Potato
In our case, ds in particular is very wiling to eat potatoes but not many other vegetables, so I was trying to expand our options.

Re: Potato / Sweet Potato
You could try butternut squash in the soup recipe, too.
