What do I do with plantains?

I'd prefer not to fry them. I have six, yellow with spots and somewhat soft. I was scheming o baking them for the kids, but don't know how/how good the result will be.

Anyone? Do they need to be sauteed or fried, or will baking turn out well?

I imagine you could also do a stew type thing...

(I've never baked them, as DH always fries them, but if I found a recipe with good reviews I'd assume baking would work well.)

You can bake them like chips. I would slice and toss with a little oil and then bake. I have boiled/steamed them before as well, but I don't particularly recommend that if you're not used to eating them. They take a while and imo are bland and starchy. Maybe I just need a better recipe though.
