Travel info
Are there any good apps for traveling. Like something that tells which highways are under construction, etc.

Re: Travel info
I use Maps on my iPhone and it will pick the quickest route to my destination, accounting for traffic flow, accidents, and construction. Maps usually gives me two routes to choose from and the time difference. It will also give me additional information such as transit updates if my destination is a train station.

Re: Travel info
Google maps also gives travel info. I have an iPhone and I mostly use Maps. I'm a visiting nurse and use it almost daily.

Re: Travel info
Waze is a pretty amazing app. It has a lot of user info incorporated, so traffic, but also vehicles at the side of the road, large potholes, etc. it also knows how fast you are going and the current speed limit, which can be useful in less familiar places.

Re: Travel info
Secondary question: when hurricanes and disasters happen, people are displaced into neighboring states in hotels, etc. We have options about when and where we might need to stop, but I'm not sure how to find out if this is an issue in any particular area. The potential problem area we will be traveling is I40 from Memphis to Albuquerque end of next week and then back again the 20-22nd range. I am thinking about contacting one of the big chain systems (like Choice Hotels) to see if they even have any idea about capaciity at a given time or anything.

I do think contacting a chain hotel and getting an estimate of expected capacity is good. If u can call straight to the front desk at specific locations they may know if they are expecting to open up to displaced residents or relief workers. In my mind, when he getting within a few hours of wanting to check in is time to start calling to follow up and find out about vacancies rather than just pulling off the highway and trying to get a hotel.
