Are we just crazy? DH agreed with me, too.

Scrolling down, this link shows scenarios that are not the same thing at all that the social media post shows.

Realistically, with a u-turn, one person is already going to be in place before the other, and is likely going to “hug” the curb closest to them. But with left turns, or left turns coming from a cross street, into a divided roadway, usually I have seen people doing it the way the post says is correct. Sometimes they don’t, and then I go with the flow. Everyone has to go with the flow for where they live.

That post also says roundabouts are safer, but not everyone knows how to use them, either. Maybe if they are not from a place where they are common, they aren’t aware. But so many people do not yield to roundabout traffic! Or they cross lanes abruptly in roundabouts with more than one lane, or don’t stay in a lane at all.

Exactly. There is a difference in procedure between roads with medians and roads without and roads with left turn lanes and roads without. Here if there is a median you definitely cross each other. No median you don’t. If there are markings on the road you follow those. If there is a left turn lane you don’t cross.

What if there is a median and no road markings? Obviously if there are markings, you follow them. But if there are no markings, I take the “inside” lane and my passenger side passes the other driver’s passenger side.

Also, did y’all look at every picture for every US state...? Because that is what is included in the link

Roundabouts are safter, faster and reduce emissions!!

And 90% of the people in the us have no idea how to use them.

Yield to traffic in the round about signel on the exsit ( and if it is a multi lane one when changing lains) and keep a steady pace when in the round about

I took driver's ed in Italy. I know all about them. They still confuse drivers here.

I hate roundabouts and they are putting them in everywhere here. That and double diamond exchanges which are even worse. I don’t mind single lane roundabouts but I dislike the multiple lane. I got hit in one there were so many accidents in one of them here that they reduced it to one lane. In another part of town there are two multi lane roundabouts one right after the other but in the first one the outside lane continues and in the second one it doesn’t. People get very confused. Especially when the markings are gone.

This. Even if you are on a dirt road and come to another car, you move to the right.

Most of the info is for intersections or with a shared turn lane, which are not the same. The only photo I saw that addresses the divided highway is Delaware, which says to go to the right.

Turning in the middle of a divided highway is more similar to a shared turn lane than to an intersection. In an intersection, opposing traffic generally turns left at the same time when the way is clear or on a green light. There would never be any need to cross; you’d have to go out of your way to do it.

Ok, here’s my try at explaining why the FB post is correct, without being able to draw diagrams and arrows. The red car turning left is the first/left photo is in the wrong lane for where it wants to go; it is in the left lane but needs to drive on the right side of the road it is turning left onto. Likewise the yellow car.
If instead the other hwy is divided as well, the red car still should be to the right to start out in the slower right lane after crossing traffic. And if it is meant to be divided the other direction, one of the cars will be entering the wrong side of the roadway.

I would never imagine it's the OK to turn passenger window to passenger window!!
Always stay to the right of oncoming traffic.
I've never seen it different (though I will admit, there's some pretty horrific driving in some states I've been to).

I honestly don't think I've ever been in a situation like the one shown. If I'm making a left turn at the same time as someone else, it's an intersection with turn lanes.
