I think there were several things that have made such a difference; first of all, at school he is now with teachers and aides who have been trained to manage kids with challenging behaviors in effective ways--- they can provide more structure, sensory breaks, one-on-one attention, collaborative problem solving, adapted classwork, etc. This school has an in-house behavior coach and full time counselor (whereas the school he was at shares a counselor with another school), they also have a campus security officer. I had been experimenting with essential oils and discovered that diffusing rather than topical application makes a huge difference with him. I started him on DHA and l-theanine supplements as well. So he's been getting more appropriate support at school and at home, most of the incentive programs that the other school had been doing dropped away and he does not have his behavior tracker in front of his face all day anymore, those are tracked by teachers in a quieter and more respectful manner than I feel was happening. And, some of the control has been taken from him, he has lots of choices, but they are choices that a six year can handle--- he's hardly a conformist or else we wouldn't have these challenges, but he does really need firmly set boundaries and structure and that has to carry over to home as well.
