Rabies vax? Do they react? I know, lame question.
My dog is due for his first rabies shot under my ownership.
We're staying at a pet-friendly hotel next week, and they want current records. He's not due until April 3rd or so, but I figured I'd just do it tomorrow. Is he going to react at all? Sleepier? Anything?

I've never seen a noticeable reaction, but I suppose that, like humans, some will: have reactions

Not usually. Afaik the only risk short term is anaphylaxis if they've had it before. I've honestly never heard of it happening but with over vaccination it could in theory. In the last 10 years or so rabies vaccine has been moved from every year to every 3 years so I'm pretty comfortable with that. I did my own vaxes when we had dogs for 15 years or so since no license is required where I live. And I had epinephrine on hand jic. Never needed it.

I've always noticed my cats feel a little off after vaccinations, but I have never seen a noticeable difference with any of my dogs.

I have not ever noticed any kind of a reaction with our many dogs over the years

Pets are over vaccinated. You can request a titer but it's cheaper just to follow the recommendations and vax.
You can give homeopathic vaccine remedies. The main one for vaccine reactions is thuja. Arnica is also helpful as it addresses inflammation. You can also buy combination remedies for vaccine detox. I'm going to buy one because my dh has to get a vaccine and he did react last time. I'm thinking of Liddell. It has homeopathic mercury which should help with metal toxicity. Hotels have never asked for vaccine records for us. Just grooming places and kennels. Last edited by Soliloquy; 03-10-2017 at 03:05 PM. |

I've never seen a pet have a reaction to rabies or other vaccines.

Our dog had a *severe* allergic reaction to a vaccine when she was with her previous owner. She almost didn't make it. Now she gets a benadryl before a vaccine.

Re: Rabies vax? Do they react? I know, lame question.
None of my many cats, dogs, and horses ever had a reaction. Working at a vet for 2 yrs, I never saw any cats or dogs have a reaction.
I do vaccines for my dog and cat every 3 yrs. Rabies and Distemper. Some vets are coming around now knowing they do not need vaccines yearly.
