Along with buckets and good shovels, we keep a couple of little plastic fish molds in our beach bag. They don't take up much space, and we use them to decorate around our sand castles. They are easy to fill and flip, ds has been able to use them since he was a toddler. He still likes using them...I do, too. When he was younger, he liked little plastic sea creatures (shark, turtle) for pretend play under the umbrella when he needed a break from the sun. And he liked driving a small truck around on the beach. I found one that was okay in water with big wheels that left cool tracks in the sand.
Now that he's 9 1/2 he spends a lot of time boogie boarding.
