Natural Help For Anxiety?
I am a natural worrier. On top of that, I suffer from social anxiety. Being at a crowded place is the worst!
I know several people who are on anxiety meds and speak very highly about their effectiveness. But I don't like the thought of being on any prescription meds. Is there anything natural I can take or do? I've never been formally diagnosed, and this has been a lifelong battle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
Do some google research on:
magnesium, GABA, L-theanine, inositol, lavender EO, 5-htp, ashwaganda See if any of that resonates with you. I also like to read customer reviews on Vitacost about various products to see if they have/have not helped in certain situations.

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
Yoga, aerobic exercise (swimming, cycling, running), getting enough sleep, eating often enough, and GABA are some things that help me.

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
I take GABA, magnesium, fish oil, vitamin D, a prenatal, and inositol. The GABA especially helps at nighttime so I don't lay there awake forever, worrying about stuff. During the day I noticed it's taken an edge off the anxiety, but I'm still not totally happy with the results.
I took the 5htp for a few days and felt more noticeable effect on my mood (more chill and easy going), but I stopped taking in because Isaac's still nursing and the worrying about it made it not worth it to me for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I feel anxious I take Motherwort or Kava herbal tincture. I also drink Chamomile tea to help.

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
Ashwagandah and Holy Basil are the herbs I use. Also, getting outside exercise helps a lot. Making sure I get enough sleep is key. When I was first researching anxiety, I read that a lot of people with anxiety are missing an enzyme needed to process caffeine and alcohol. Cutting those two out can also help.

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
I second the kava tincture It's the only herbthat I can feel working right away. But there's a big variance between brands, so try two or three until you find one that is really potent.
Tulsi and lemonbalm are good for the very long term, but may not seemto be helping right away. I just read an article that said hawthorn is relaxing to the nervous system and good for cases of anxiety or insomnia. I don't know how quickly it takes effect though, maybe not right away. You can get hawthorn leaf and berry from MRH.

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
My diet has a HUGE impact on my anxiety - the more whole foods, healthy fats, vegetables, and low/no grain I eat the better my brain feels .

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
Yes, that. I see you're vegan, but how's your sugar/grain consumption? I used to have really bad anxiety until I cut out sugar and gluten.

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
Thank you for starting this great thread on natural remedies for anxiety. I found that 5HTP was helpful and calmed my mind. I like to use essential oils like lavender and a blend called Citrus Bliss (from doTerra) that are calming and soothing. I put them on my wrists and body in the morning. Sometimes I carry them in my purse so that I can apply another drop on my body, later in the day.
I am curious what you have tried that has been suggested and to hear about your results. ~Lisa |

Re: Natural Help For Anxiety?
Cognitive behavioral therapy is great for anxiety. You can work with a therapist, or you can try using a self-help type book.
