frosting emergency
I am trying to make frosting for ds' birthday cake. This is the recipe.
http://www.cookingclassy.com/2015/05...rawberry-cake/ I am making the frosting and something went very wrong. I whipped the cream, which I've done before and it was fine. Then we lost power for about half an hour, and the whipped cream sat for maybe an hour (it's warm in the house). I went back to it, and it was still whipped, so I went on to the next step. I added 1/3 cup powdered sugar and started to whip it again. It's a mess. The longer it goes, the worse it gets. I think it's separating into butter and cream. There's a big mass of solid sitting in milk, basically. What went wrong?? Is it because the whipped cream got warm? I have to drag ds back to the grocery store to get more cream. Ugh. I want to figure out what I did wrong before I try this again. Help!

keep the bowl cool/cold and it should work fine.

Re: frosting emergency
I would guess it's because it sat out in the warm air too long. I had looked at the reviews on that recipe and saw that a couple of people had a problem with the frosting but had mentioned that it was warm out and she responded that it needed to be kept cool. What a bummer! I think you just need to make sure that you keep the bowl cool and even after it's frosted, I would put the cake in the fridge. I'm so sorry! Good luck!

Re: frosting emergency
Yes, I redid it with a cold bowl and mixed everything right away. Turned out great! Must have been the heat. Thank you both!! Lesson learned!

Yay!!! I have had many baking disasters and it makes me want to cry. So glad you had success. Can't wait to see a picture and hear how it tasted. Happy birthday to your DS!!!

Re: frosting emergency
Thanks! I'll post a full update on the other thread after I finish the cake (right now the cake is made, frosting is made, but cake is not frosted). Everything seems to taste good, but I'm not thrilled with how the cake looks. I read that 2 circle cakes=1 9x11 pan, so I thought 3 circle cakes would be 1 9x11 and 1 8x8. The cakes are definitely thin... Fortunately (I guess!) the frosting appears to be very abundant. I can put as much frosting as cake and double the cake size I think!
