Default The "Right" way to fold towels

Should I make this sensitive?

I read in another thread about towel folding. I know I do not fold mine the best way for storing. I just fold them in half lengthwise and then fold them in thirds. It is super quick.
How do you do it?

Default Re: The "Right" way to fold towels

I grew up folding them in quarters, and then learned from babysitting that it wasn't "the right way". So when I had my own household, I folded in thirds lengthwise, then in half and half again. Lowly rag towels were folded in quarters to make it easy to distinguish them. And now I live in a house where nothing will fit in the linen closet that way, so I'm folding beach towels and rag towels completely differently, and giggling that I was ever so caught up in a "right way".

I fold them in half lengthwise, twice. Then I fold them in thirds in the opposite direction.

Default Re: The "Right" way to fold towels

I don't think there is one right way to fold towels. I've folded mine different ways in different places we've lived depending on what my towel storage looked like. I had one place where it was not very tall, but plenty wide, so I folded them in a way that they had a bigger "footprint," if you will, but were flatter. Now I have a place that's plenty tall but they need to take up less space, so I trifold them so that they have a smaller footprint but are taller when folded. I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but that's just my experience.

Thirds and thirds again. It's the most stable fold. If there are different sizes, I shift the location of the folds a little, but it's still two symmetrical bends per direction.

Exactly! It all depends on the space available. Be flexible people.

It is clearly wrong to fold in half lengthwise initially forcing you to completely unfold in order to hang them.

Unless you need to hang two, long and skinny!

I don't think I have a right way to fold towels, but I like them in quarters because for me it's the easiest fold and I know I'll get them put away that way, although on one particular shelf I have to fold them in thirds in order for them to fit.

In thirds initially, then in half and in half again for storage. I like them to be ready to hang, and I hang my towels with the side edges tucked out of sight (one in, the other behind in a way that it isn't visible from the front). Washcloths that are visible are folded in a similar way. Wash clothes that are stored in a cupboard (kids' bathroom) are just folded in quarters for stability.

Lol. I never knew folding towels was such serious business!
I fold mine in half lengthwise (as I also hang mine folded in half lengthwise ), then twice the opposite length, making it in quarters.

Since we have so many in a bathroom, we have had to replace the standard rack with hooks. But, that would make sense otherwise.

"Right" is tongue-in-cheek, because I read elsewhere something about towels being folded in the "wrong" way.
