Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
Food and seasonal allergies, barometric pressure, stress and being out of alignment are our major cause of migraines here
I've been getting migraines since I was 15 and my kids started getting them even younger My eldest seems to be 100% allergy related. She gets gluten or major allergen exposure and gets a migraine. My middle has muscle damage and gets a migraine if he's not taking cal/mag and in alignment/doing his neck exercises. I get them from stress, barometric pressure and gluten. What hasn't worked (I can't even remember but for years I was trying everything under the sun ) What has worked *avoidance of most known food additives that cause migraines *prevention through classical homeopathy, homeopathic allergy treatment, chiropractic, physical therapy, avoidance of known allergies, and herbs specicif to the problem (good mood tonic - me for stress) *when one actually hits taking a triple dose of over the counter meds (500 mg tylenol, 400 mg ibuprofen and benadryl) all at once migraines are life controlling

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
There are a few days twice a month where I might get a hormonal migraine and it's been off and on like this since my second was about a year old and I briefly had two periods a month. It's definitely synced with my cycle. The worst was actually when I had lactational amenorhea and I'd get false PMS that was worse than real PMS. I can head it off a little by taking mag citrate, but, once it's there, I might not be able to keep anything down. I haven't thought of ibuprofen or acetominophen as helping, but I'll attempt them every time.
The pain is mild, but the nausea is strong. If the pain is stronger than usual, I'll have brain fog in the days following. There have been times the kids need to do as much as they can for themselves, but I can still do something, even between hurls, if it's important enough. I've been getting the aches in the back of my head more and more, possibly a chiari malformation. It got worse for a time after I went gluten-free and this round might be from going dairy-free or it could be coincidence. I figure if I'm reducing inflammation, maybe my brain has to reseat a bit, IDK, wild speculation here. Changing pillow positions might be helping and I try to wear running shoes for the absorption as much as possible.

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
I had to laugh at the irony - your thread jinxed me. I got a migraine yesterday, but took 800 mg ibuprofen right away, before it got locomotive bad, drank a cup of coffee, and ate. That made me remember - hormones + low blood sugar = migraine for me oftentimes as well, and the migraine will often pop up *after* I eat when I have eaten hours too late, if that makes sense..

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
I used to get migraines regularly. About once a month.
Then I got pregnant & they stopped. No migraines between pregnancies. And none for 2 years after my last pg. Then I started getting them again. But rarely. Very rarely. 1-2 times a year. I was always at why my migraines went away. Then as I was reading this thread I had a moment. My eating totally changed after I was pregnant. Drastically. I joined LLL while pregnant & learned about HFCS to start with. I joined an organic co-op. I stopped eating foods with aspartame. I don't know why I never made that connection before - its so obvious. The migraines did go away before I started eating better so I think the hormones played a role as well. What I do? Take a OTC migraine pill which is just ibruprophen & caffeine or something. Drink caffeine. Usually that just helps a little. Not much I can do other than quiet & dark. Mine always start with an aura as well.

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
I've been taking the doses for ibuprofen or acetamitophen on the bottle. Is that the wrong dose? I was thinking of headaches as something that can be 100% cured by pain medicine or not at all. Some headaches are perfectly treated with a normal dose of some pain medicine, but maybe we're dealing with something different. I do go higher on ibuprofen for reducing inflammation of sports injuries.

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
To clarify, you're talking about ibuprofen, right? I'm not familiar with upping the dose on acetaminophen.

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
yes, only ibuprofen, never up the dose on acetaminophen.

Re: I want to hear your migraine story!
Still researching after dd's 9 day migraine and found this thread.
We tried a lot of new things but only iv meds kicked this one. I'm patiently waiting for the red lens laser eye protection as I've been reading a lot about red light therapy and or doctor said a majority of migraine sufferers respond within 8 min if they put them on At onset of the migraine. Also considering acupuncture.
