Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
Also there are plain white Corelle,
I never really liked the decorations on the dishes so I only have the plain.

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
My DH wanted to get Corelle when we were replacing our Pfaltzgraff, but just could not agree on a pattern or color. We ended up with glass dishes from Ikea.

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
I'm still considering the Corelle just for durability lol and I'd go with no decorations. We aren't decoration on plates type of people anyway lol

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
I was in the process of switching to almost all glass, but my 2 y/o ds didn't like the idea. He broke almost all of my glasses, and quite a few dishes. He will continue to use plastic and maybe when he's older, I will try again.

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
We switched very slowly, buying one or two whenever they were on sale as part of our regular groceries. That way, we didn't really feel it.

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
I love love love plain white dishes. Meals look more elegant on them, I think. I found plain, square, white dinnerware at Walmart that I really loved. Looked online and found that Crate & Barrel had a pattern that I liked even more (the lines were cleaner) for almost the same price. Found a code for free shipping and I'm the happy owner of Court dinnerware from Crate & Barrel.
Fiesta Ware is lead & cadmium free for people who like colorful dishes. If you go to Kohls during a sale and have a coupon, Fiesta Ware is very affordable. Last edited by Soliloquy; 08-18-2014 at 11:10 AM. Reason: typo |

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
Just joining the chorus. We use glass (Pyrex and Anchor Hocking) and Corningware. And we haven't had a microwave in about six years.

We ditched the microwave in 2006. Haven't missed it even once.

Is glassware really better than plastic?
Quote:
I tried ditching ours. I loved not having one and didn't miss it, but my mother-in-law must have thought it to be against nature not to have one, because she brought us a brand new one not long after. I will be glad when this one quits. She cooks in hers all the time with styrofoam and plastic. Ick. I have told my kids NEVER to do that. Chemicals! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
Ours is only used to warm up left overs (on/in MW safe glass).
Or heat up water/coffee. I've considered getting rid of ours, but with a new baby coming it is easier for Gabriel to start helping with lunch etc a microwave.

Re: Is glassware really better than plastic?
I am transitioning away from plastic to glass and metal. I do not use the microwave and did not have one for a couple of years. I have only had a couple of breaks, but when I realized I throw out more dishes that are missing lids than I have broken dishes I figure the costs are about the same.
