Re: Ballroom dance dress moral support thread
It looks so good! And you look so good in it! I'm glad the dress form works just fine with only two layers of duct tape

Re: Ballroom dance dress moral support thread
Ok, so I'm running into issues with my original plan. For the skirt, I was going to make it out of three layers of swishy chiffon. However, the three layers of the matching color aren't enough to not be see-through. I'm not about to buy or sew four layers for this thing. So I can:
1. Sew a solid crepe layer, then put one chiffon layer over it and hope it looks light and swishy still. (or two chiffon layers, but that's pretty expensive and a lot of hemming) 2. Buy the crepe, but try to sew it with an all-over lace layer to make it look pretty, since it's dull and boring by itself. (I think I couldn't do a circle skirt this way...I would need to take some bulk out of the top, so it would have to be more fitted. Also, I would lay the lace over the other layer, and sew them both into the seams, so it would be like only having one layer for the skirt) 3. ??? What do you think? I need to get going on this soon

Re: Ballroom dance dress moral support thread
Can you do a lace layer with chiffon overlay?

Re: Ballroom dance dress moral support thread
I think the chiffon would make the lace look dull. The chiffon and the crepe don't catch the light at all, but the lace reflects a little and is a bit shiny. If I cover that up, I don't think it would look good. What I really want is a free-floating lace layer, but that's really hard to sew...and I have no idea how I would hem it.
