Question actually getting rid of mold?

can you actually get rid of mold, and then keep it from coming back?

Psalm 13
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?How long will you hide your face from me? 2 How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?....because I am shaken. 5 But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

On your own? Or with professional help? It can be done but you definitely have to address what caused the mold in the first place.

Yes you can. The company we're dealing with even gives a 30 year warranty if you follow their instructions (we need to get a dehumidifier in the basement).

Mold needs moisture, stagnant air, and darkness to thrive. It can grow with 2/3 but will really infest with 3/3.

The problem with simply bleaching mold is that it doesn't kill the "roots." Bleaching only works on non-porous surfaces. There are products that both kill and prevent mold from re-growing. But the most important step is removing the source of moisture. Circulating air and adding light help tremendously, also. Exhaust fans in bathrooms need to cleaned annually so they really move air. Bathroom doors need to stay open as much as possible. Any leaks need to be fixed. Sometimes porous surfaces need to be replaced, in addition. Bathroom walls should be painted in semi-gloss to prevent mold from penetrating into drywall.

Getting rid of mold is a professional business. You really need to bring in an expert. Ask around. But perhaps gerberadaisy can tell you more. She recently had to deal with the issue and she might know a good company.

My husband's advice about getting rid of mold is to spray with a borax solution, because it won't evaporate but will ongoingly make the surface unfriendly to mold. Might be worth a try

I'd leave it to the professionals.

We used H & H Environmental Construction & Consulting which services the NY, NJ, PA, CT, & MA.

It was only our basement & while no visible mold was present when they did the initial inspection, they did find a little while out there & hubs removed the dry wall & they finished their job.

They uses air scrubbers to clean the air while they were working. They scrubbed the walls then they sprayed the room with an antibacterial solution. A week later, no mold smell.

If it's REALLY bad you definitely need a professional. I personally wouldn't do it without one no matter how small.
