Default Ridding the house of fleas - without chemicals?

We babysat a friend's dog a few weeks ago and ever since then, I've been finding the occasional flea in our house, like one per day Our floors are all hardwood or linoleum. I have laundered all the bedding and the bathroom mat. Vacuumed the couch and ottoman. Also mopped the floors with vinegar/citrus EO. We don't have any other pets. What else can I do to eliminate them?!!

Are you sure they came from the dog? When we got fleas but had no pet turned out they came through the windows from foxes. We had to keep our windows closed a lot and they went after a couple weeks of daily cleaning.

My son and family got rid of a horrid infestation when a mother cat gave birth to kittens inside a wall by using the white or pie plate of water with a light trained on it at night.Fleas are attracted to the light and go in the water.you can do a search online but it really works. So you have no pets?

The dog definitely had fleas on arrival. We live in a second story apartment and a hamster is our only pet

I use de in my chicken coop, not sure how you'd do that in the house.

Daily floor care and vac'ing of furniture. Do one big linen wash, then put your extras away. There are tips about salting floors and using DE, but it doesn't sound like you're really there. It will just take a while, maybe up to a month, before they're really under control.

Ah okay, it makes sense that it would be a gradual process. For some reason I thought they should disappear immediately after I sanitized the whole house

That light trap really works! I used a desk-type lamp because I don't have a flashlight, but it caught 4 fleas the first night and 2 the next night

It turns out that there wasn't an animal source at all. Fleas are running rampant in the environment this year. Just standing in my yard (and also when I was in a friend's backyard) I've seen fleas jump on me. Ugh!

So I figured out what was bringing them inside my house - the porch light! I normally leave it on at night. Fleas were following the beacon and hopping up a long flight of stairs and then under my apartment door to get in the house! Unbelievable! Couldn't get rid of them until about a week after I started leaving the light off at night. Oy vey. Thank you everybody for the help
