Why do people live in Texas - Page 2

I have lived for the majority of my life in either Texas or Louisiana. Hubby moved to Texas for the first time in 1998, and then again in 2012 when we moved our family here from Louisiana.

Why do I live in Texas?

I live here because my family is here and because the culture here is very family-oriented. I live here because of the beautiful scenery and all of the opportunities to be in God's amazing nature. I live here because of the opportunities that exist here for my hard of hearing son to get a quality education that weren't available to us in other states. I live here because I really don't like snow, and I'm willing to put up with sub-tropical climates to guarantee that I never have to put on snow tires or shovel my drive-way ever again. I live here because of the diversity of Houston, Austin, and the big cities and the fact that I can access all of these amazing areas of culture with a drive of a couple of hours, but I get to continue living in a small rural community. I live here because it is one of the most libertarian - live free or die - stay out of my business and I'll stay out of yours places in the United States. Sometimes that isn't the greatest thing in the world, but I do love the fact that there are no restrictions on me raising my animals, homeschooling my kids, turning my yard into a vegetable garden, not vaccinating or selectively vaccinating, etc.

Although I hope to return to Louisiana when I am done raising my kids to adulthood, Texas will always have a piece of my heart.

Let's say one is interested in tent camping but hates tent camping in the wind. Any tips or places/seasons to avoid?

Just avoid West Texas/the Panhandle(s). I live in central TX and I think the wind here is unremarkable. South/Central/East TX should be fine.

I haven't read all the replies.

But i lived in Texas.

My company transferred me there. And I don't mind the hot and dislike the cold (so would rather put up with extreme hot than extreme cold).
