Default Help me buy a new laptop

I have been limping along an ancient laptop for at least three years. It was hand me down when I got it. Tech has changed a ton since the. And I am in over my head with options.

I am a teacher who will be taking online classes and I dabble in photography.

I prefer to be under $500.
I don’t think hi I a Chromebook is right for me because of my photography hobby and while I use Drive everyday there are some things I do for work that don’t communicate well with google software.
I like the idea of touchscreen as an option and the convertible pc/tablet style laptops so a I can use them for videos in my classroom but I am concerned about their durability near young children.

Please, I am begging, help me.

I like Acer laptops. I get the SquareTrade insurance so that I can get it fixed when it breaks.

We’ve had Acer before and I primarily use Lenovo at work.

I “think” I am down to deciding between these two. And we he timing is getting crunch worthy as the top of my keyboard frame cracked today while prepping a lesson. Ugh.

The Acer Spin
Or
The Lenovo Flex

If it wasn't for the photography I'd say Chromebook all the way. I don't know what photographers need. There are plenty of non-Google apps that you can use on a Chromebook, though.

I think that's what I have for my older laptop, or something close to it. (Lenovo Flex) It is not in great shape from the kids beating on it and crumbs on the keyboard, but there haven't been any problems with the hinges or the screen. Mostly, there are keys that stick, and the speakers/microphone were damaged by dropping it. It lasted for several years, and has not bit the dust yet.

I do not know what kind you should get, that’s always so hard and I haven’t been happy with the last one I purchased on cyber week a couple years ago.

Since you are a teacher, the prices on this site are amazing once you decide what you want. Everything comes with a 4year warranty! notebooksforstudents.org It is normally for students but also says “Faculty and staff may purchase laptops for themselves. Within the Student Name field enter your name. Within the Educational Institution field enter the name of the school or organization you are employed by.”

So i found out my budget is higher than I originally thought. That alone takes some of the tension off and opens up options.
