Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
Started packing books last night and am already up to five boxes (small-ish, but still).
I sense a lot of decluttering in my future.

Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
Your current place might be able to do a walkthrough with you after you've moved all your stuff out. That can reduce the amount of silly "damage" they claim and also allow you time to fix/clean certain things they mention.

Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
First, congrats on your move....I had no idea you were moving It sounds like your new place will be quite spacious.
Quiteria's suggestions were really good regarding getting your clothing needs set aside for your upcoming needs prior to packing. I also agree with the idea of decluttering when you unpack versus trying to do that as you pack with all the pressing needs you have. How are you ensuring that the boxes you pack up arrive in their right locations in the new place? |

The boxes are numbered so far (1-5) and labeled "Books- Office" on them. Any boxes that DH and I pack ourselves, we are moving ourselves using my parents' van and our cars. We're using the moving company just for furniture (washer-dryer, piano, bed, mattress, dresser, etc.). Still need to find a moving company, though. That's one of my projects for this weekend

Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
Sounds like a good plan to just have movers move large furniture

Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
Have you talked to your movers and check that they will move the piano? Some moving company's won't, they say you need to higher piano movers.

Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
Haven't found a moving company yet. DH was supposed to do it, but he is dealing with family issues right now So I am doing that tomorrow. We used Mayflower to move the piano up from Texas, so if worst comes to worse, we'll use them again.

Re: Moving at the WORST Possible Time
I'm more and more a fan of not moving stuff I'm not going to keep, BUT, I have the hardest time making decisions about what to keep and what to give away. I've been doing the konmari method, which the basic core of it is that you ask yourself, "Does this spark joy?" Suddenly, I'm able to let go of all kinds of stuff like magic. And it is quick and feels great. http://www.marthastewart.com/1106009...anizing-method
My other tip is to pick up extra packs of tape, sharpies, pacing paper, and boxes now and keep them in a centralized spot in your home. All the best with your busy, busy summer and move! |

I am decluttering as I go I feel it is a better choice for me, and it makes me feel more at peace when I'm packing because I am only packing things I actually need. Thank you for the link Mom is coming to help me pack today. Yay for moms!
