Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
or do they get wiggly over time? My ds wants a metal bunk bed because he is scared of the knots in the wood at night time (a little strange but whatever). Anyway the metal beds seem sturdy but I wonder if they hold up over the long term. His room is really two small for two twins, or if they have them they don't have room to play. I'd love murphy beds but they are so expensive.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
We stayed at a hostel in Norway that had Ikea metal bunk beds in every room. They are for sure heavily used. They seemed sturdy, but the issue I had was that they were LOUD. Every time someone rolled over and moved they'd rattle and groan. It was a huge issue with 6 people in one room. Not sure how much is normal wear and tear and how much was how they were assembled, but it's something to be aware of.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
My girls Ikea bunk is very squeaky. It wasn't like that at first, but it's gotten like that over time. Otherwise, it's been great.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
Can you paint his bed? Primer would cover the knots, I would think.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
I don't have any experience with IKEA beds, but wanted to say I was terrified of my wooden furniture as a kid. When I looked at the knots I could kind of join them up to make weird melty faces

Yeah, I can see that. That's why I want to get him something that doesn't scare him.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
I second painting them. We have 2nd hand Ikea wooden bunks, and they're holding up really well.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
Wonder if you could WD40 the squeakiness away. And I wonder if the knots on wood is an NF thing or so?

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
I don't know any of my kids' MB types, so I don't know if he even is NF. The only thing I know for absolute certain is that he is an Introvert.
I really hate painting stuff. But I could buy a set of painted bunk beds. I also really hate wobbly and squeaky bunk beds.

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
I don't know how you feel about this, but we let our boys put stickers on them. I'll look at them in a few to see how many knots there are

Re: Do the Ikea metal bunk beds hold up?
My boys have these ones: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50269029/ , which are painted, but I don't know if the knots are still visible through the paint enough to scare your son or not (no pun intended). They have held up really, really well. We've had them for 3 years now if I remember right. They also can be divided to two single beds, so if arrangements change in the future you have options.
