The three big hidden forms of MSG are anything modified, hydrolyzed, or autolyzed. Modified _______ starch is in so many foods!
Make sure you even read labels on raw meat. Many are "Enhanced with a x% solution" or include "natural flavorings" - both of which frequently contain MSG

Since it's been mentioned I'll share the list I came upon last summer when I was doing food eliminations for migraines.
POTENTIAL SOURCES OF MSG Hydrolyzed protein (vegetable/soy/plant/rice protein) Yeast extract Autolyzed yeast Natural flavors/flavorings Broth, stock or bouillon Soy protein concentrate/isolate Textured protein Whey protein Protein-fortified items Malt extract Malted barley Maltodextrin Carrageenan Kombu (seaweed extract) Sodium or calcium caseinate Glutamic acid Gelatin Fermented or cultured items Ultra-pasteurized items Enzyme-modified items I know, enough to make you .

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
OK, quick question here. I have ulcers. I have just cut out grains of all kinds. Now I'm suffering from acid reflux and stomach pain. My meds are BARELY working. So, is this something that is to be expected until my body adjusts or is this something that I should be concerned about? I plan on talking to my PCM, but I don't expect to get much support in cutting out grains from him anyway, so I'm almost scared of what he'll say.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
Stiina I'm still suffering but to a lesser degree, that I am thankful for. Going GF/DF helped but I haven't done that in a couple months and I've been researching doing a candida diet as well....I love sugar and wouldn't be surprised if it were linked. I'm also scheming ways to afford my chiropractor. I feel like a holistic approach is going to be my only way to really rid myself or significantly decrease my migraines.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
this thread is SO very helpful to me! i am making a list right now for when we go shopping.
also, i made egg cups for breakfast this morning for the first time, packed full of veggies, and we all loved them. i LOVE the sausage and sweet potato idea and can't wait to try it. i put just a little sausage in our egg cups this morning and used some in some soup i made for lunch (chicken bone broth from earlier this week, onions, garlic, basil, oregano, tomatos, sausage and stirred in spinach, salt and pepper at the end) we eat very simply because we're pretty DF...so mostly we cook meat and then veggies for sides (that way we know there's no dairy in anything) and then make soup/stews with leftovers...but we've been doing this for over 5 years and i'm really really really dying for change. i am so happy to have found this thread with all these ideas of how to prep the same foods different ways! |

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
A while back I bought several containers of bread crumbs that were on sale and I had coupons for, so they were dirt cheap. I went to read the ingredients as I'm going to make meatballs this week. Yeah, I'm throwing them all out . I can't believe how much junk is in those bread crubs. I initially thought "Well, I'll just use it up and buy all natural next time..." but my conscience will just not let me use them at all. I'll be looking in the organic section to see what they have. I wish I had done this before I went the HFS today because it's too out of the way for me to go more than once a week.

Re: D. R. P. T. ! (dietary revamp processing thread ;) )
The amount of ingredients in bread crumbs is outrageous Check the panko bread crumbs. I bought the Kikkoman brand ones at Walmart (before we were GF) and the ingredients were MUCH better
ETA From Kikkoman website: Ingredients WHEAT FLOUR, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING: SUGAR, YEAST, SOYBEAN OIL, SALT.

Sara, how long do you cook the pork with squishy swishy apples? The cookbook says 45-50 min at 375, but I've done that and it's seriously still raw.
