oil diffuser questions
We just got a new, better oil diffuser. It is one that works with mist and doesn't heat the oils. The kind we had before had a felt pad that we added drops to, whereas this one the oils are put in water.
A couple questions. Is it normal to not be able to smell the oils? With the previous diffuser, I felt like the oil smell was fairly strong (not obnoxious, but I could smell them). Now I really don't smell the oils. Do you move the diffuser into your bedroom at night? I have it going during the day in the kitchen, and I have been moving into the bedroom at night. A bit of a pain, but I like to have it going where we are sleeping all night.

Re: oil diffuser questions
Sometimes I can smell it and sometimes I can't. I wonder if it depends on which oil is used. I don't run mine all the time, but when I do run it, I run it in the central part of the house. If someone is sick, then I will run it in their bedroom.

Re: oil diffuser questions
I have three diffusers, one for the kitchen and one in each bedroom, all different brands, but they all work as you describe, by putting the oils in the water and misting then through the room. I definitely can smell them. How many drops of oil are you adding? I usually put in two or three, depending on what oil it is.

Re: oil diffuser questions
I put in five drops. I used more than that with the felt pad, but when I got this diffuser, the guy said that I didn't need to use more than five drops (hence saving money). It cost $50, so I don't want to buy another one, you know? Hmmmm....

Re: oil diffuser questions
All my oil blends say 10-15 drops for diffusers.
How much I can smell it does depend on how big a space I'm using it in, and how close I am to it. In the larger living room/dining room/kitchen/hallway area it's very faint. If I close it into a bedroom though, it's *definitely* noticeable. |

Re: oil diffuser questions
I love our NOW one. You put water and 5 or 6 drops in and it puts out a mist for 4 hours. It maybe a cup of water.
Did you get the kind that just puffs every so often?

Re: oil diffuser questions
I will have to find the brand. It has a steady mist and shuts off after 8 hours. I find that I can smell like it when I am right by it but not throughout the room like I could with our other one.

Re: oil diffuser questions
Strange. I can smell ours all over the house and we have a big house. Maybe it's how our house is set up? We have ceiling fans going to move the warm air around because we have radiators.

Re: oil diffuser questions
OK it is a NOW brand too. The newest model. Ranch style house. I put 5 to 10 drops. They come out fast so it is hard to count. Maybe I will call the store where I got it from to ask what they think.

Re: oil diffuser questions
Just be aware that you should only diffuse for about 30 minutes and then off for an hour. A diffuser running continually doesn't make the EO any more effective.

Re: oil diffuser questions
Is it a cone shape? Maybe their is something wrong with it. Because my house has lots of turns and such. In a ranch, I think I could smell it every room.

Re: oil diffuser questions
You know how you can't smell stuff after awhile because of being so familiar with it, I think it's called noseblind, do you think that's happening?

Re: oil diffuser questions
Hmmm, I have never heard about not running it continuously. That is interesting. I had been running it all night while we slept. Yes, it is the cone shaped one. But maybe we do just get used to it. When we came home after being out today I could smell it as we walked in the door.

Re: oil diffuser questions
Yes 20-30 minutes, off for an hour, then you can do 20-30 again. It's not healthy to run it constantly.
My diffuser says 5 drops. Have you checked to see if yours has a rec?
