Elderberry and flu vaccine
Because of DS's response to any kind of cold or flu (reactive airway disease with bronchitis and trouble breathing) we are considering getting him the flu shot this year. He is 4 years old and has never had it before. We have started using elderberry and it really helped to decrease the duration of my recent cold and seemed to keep him from progressing to bronchitis. My question is, I know the flu vaccine can lower the immune system for a while, so is it okay to give him elderberry the day of and first few days after the vaccine.

Re: Elderberry and flu vaccine
Have you tried vitamine D? We live close to the North Pole, so it is really dark and cold when "the month has an R". Real flu time! But since I started to take vitamine D I hardly get the flu any more.
I have no experience with flu vaccine so I can't say much about it. But isn't elderberry just food? I mean, can't you eat/drink it whenever you like? Elderberry juice is very nice, that's for sure . |

Re: Elderberry and flu vaccine
We do all take vitamin d. I am sure that has helped somewhat. There is an elderberry syrup that has warnings, perhaps because of the concentration, about how much to take, what ages, how long, etc...

Re: Elderberry and flu vaccine
I guess syrup is concentrated. I have only used Elderberry juice. What does the warning on the bottle say? Anything about vaccines?
Here, close to the North Pole, we also use Black Currant juice as a remedy against flu and cold. Fill 1/3 cup with Black Currant juice and fill the rest of the cup with hot water. Some sugar or honey, if you think it necessary. Drink it warm! For a 4yo you should check that it is not too hot and let it cool a little, if necessary. For an adult, a small amount of alcohol can be added, if you approve of it. Last edited by MariJo7; 10-07-2015 at 01:04 PM. |

We take lypospheric Vitamin C when we're sick. I am in awe of how quickly we get over things. (that day)
