Make sure he has a stool for his feet to get him in the best position for it to pass.

Thanks everyone! He has passed some! quite a bit. but he said he feels like there is more and that it is hurting so he got back in the bath. He feels the bath did the trick. But he had also taken some dulcolax type stuff on top of the other stuff he took in the past 24 hours.
I just don't know how he can make so much poop! He used to go every day or even twice a day. Lately there are some days he doesn't go and that is probably why he's having a problem. But still seems to have a large quantity of it even when he goes daily! Guess I'll ask the ped. about it at his well check-up this month....

Hhelping him to be aware that he goes each day can help. When a person gets impacted like that can kind of stretch colon out and make a little widened pouch where the stool just collects again and dries out and gets too hard and thick to pass easily. Doing a 3 day course of probiotics can really set it back to normal and then lots of water and things with fiber - fruits and veggies

Also make sure he is well hydrated. Fiber can't help if you don't intake enough water!

I would give him a good cup of coffee. If you have a french press that would be best because it keeps all the oils in that help move things along. Decaf can work.

I always wondered with coffee- is it the coffee itself of the caffeine that "gets things moving"?
I did give him regular (black) tea yesterday. He'd LOVE to be offered coffee!

Well I think it helped him not to wait to go and he was totally fine after that. One of his probs,as I recall, was not taking time to come in from playtime if he had to go?

Be careful with bananas and tea! And with hard boiled eggs and white rice. I get constipation from those things myself. Coffee is good, if he likes it.

tea? I hadn't heard that was constipating... curious if you know why it is? Which component of it, etc.
