I'm struggling with my pre-calculus homework and could really use some help if anyone has time or could possibly help me!

I'm not super smart, but I used to tutor algebra.

Where did line 2 come from?

I tutored algebra, not calculus. I don't really remember much of calculus.

I guess I don't remember anything about cos. I would have put cos(a+b)= cos a + cos b.

I think it can be simplified to cosa/sina-sinb/cosb and then further to tangent of a - (1/tangent)b. I think it might be zero because the tangent of a is the same as 1/tangent of b. Please let us know- now I want to know if I'm remembering that right.

Did you finish it yet? I love trigonometry.

Is the idea to simplify the left side of the equation?

Yes. Simplify the left to show it equals 1

So I know the goal, sine squared plus cosine squared. Every trigonometric identity comes from that one. I had to prove it when I took trigonometry. Since the right side is 1, we know the left is going to be some form of sine squared plus cosine squared. Let me see if I can work it out on paper a bit.

Ok, so I got it to cosA/cosB=1 or cosA=cosB, but that doesn't make too much sense yet.

Thanks for working on it. I still haven't figured it out

A friend worked on it too and she got cos(a)/cos(b) = 1 also. So maybe a=b is the answer.

I'm so glad this class is over on Friday!!!

a doesn't necessarily equal b, because multiple angles have the same cosine value. For instance, cos90=cos270=0. But 90=/=270.

What is actually super frustrating to me is this problem looks incredibly familiar to me, and I feel like I have answered it before. Haha. It would have been years ago so I can't remember exactly.

All the rest of the problems I was able to find online. It makes me wonder if he typed it wrong on the worksheet.

I watched khan academy A LOT during my studies. Which had only an element of math.

Maybe there is something there you could watch?
