Basil at the end of season
What can I do with my basil now that the weather is changing to cold? I have several plants left and besides just letting them die, I am not sure what to do with the harvest. (Besides make a few dishes we can eat right now that are laden with it!)

Re: Basil at the end of season
I could but I am not quite sure how. Would you be able to walk me through it?

Re: Basil at the end of season
If I did not have access to the internet, I would put pieces on a cookie sheet in the oven at the lowest possible temp overnight.

Re: Basil at the end of season
That would have been what I would have done as well. Good catch!

Re: Basil at the end of season
You could also look up freezing options. Maybe running it through the blender and then freezing in ice cube trays. Just today on fb there was a post about filling ice cube trays with chopped chives and water to freeze for later use.

Re: Basil at the end of season
make basil pesto!!!
Seriously. The most delicious food ever. And super easy to make. You can make a huge batch and then freeze it in ice cube trays. Then you can pull out a cube all winter long when you want to make it. That's what I just did with all our basil.

Re: Basil at the end of season
I make all my basil into pesto at the end of the season. I put it along with some olive oil and nuts into the food processor. I then freeze it in small quantities (ice cube tray works well) when you thaw it you can add Parmesan cheese if you like that in your pesto.

Re: Basil at the end of season
Freeze them. I have a blog post from awhile back about it...on my phone now and going to bed but you can Google basil and living healthy in the modern world.blogspot.com and that should pull it up.
