Default good potholders that work and last?

I need new potholders. Old ones wearing either thin overall or thin spots. It seems most potholders dont' work as well once they are washed. I prefer mitts. Not sure why lately I seem to have a fear of getting burned. Not sure if it's just happened to often (nothing too serious but still- ouch!) or I'm having some irrational fear. Even at the stove I'm more afraid something is going to spatter me. It's like I'm more sensitive or something.

anyway- I need to buy new potholders and wondering if anyone can recommend a certain kind or brand or something that works really well (to lift a heavy cast iron dutch oven out of a 450 degree oven) is not clumsy, covers the hand, and either doesn't need to be washed in machine (like cloth) or holds up to washing.

Silicone ones!
The super flexible kind that have the cloth mitt inside them. Amazing. You can wash the outside and don't need to wash the inside (make sure your hands are clean and mostly dry going into them, of course.

My oven gloves are silicone and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I bought them through Amazon, but I've seen them in every store, including stores like Walmart and Target.

thanks- I'll look for them there (about the only place where I live to look other than BB&B) Have you seen them at these stores with the built in mitts like Kiara described?

If I'm imagining what she's describing, then yes.

These look like the ones I have: http://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Elemen...one+oven+glove

The insides are cloth. If they ever get dirty, I just run them under tap water.

thanks! those look good. I wonder what it means about heat resistant to 425... can I use them to touch a 450 degree pot handle? maybe it means I'd feel some heat at that point (but I imagine not burning, just feeling some warmth)

Yup, those look exactly like what I have (except mine are olive green. )

I've used them to deal with stuff coming out of a 450 oven. It feels...warm. Have a space clear to put something down fairly quickly, that's all.

I've used them to carry everything at every temperature and I've never had an issue.

I would imagine that it would just mean that they are for regular cooking use. As in, don't use them to rearrange the logs during a roaring fire or something like that.

I have silicone ones, too, and I do like them. I've had them for 7 years and one got a little hole in a corner just this year. I can still use it just so long as I don't use the frayed corner. I rinse when needed or if they get something gross on them I wash them. I also have some regular cloth potholders from Ikea that have help up very well through multiple washings.
