Re: kombucha 101 thread!
Can I make my kt with a flavored one from the store? I wanted to make it tonight with my scoby (thanks AngelaVA!) but I didn't realize I needed "starter tea". I have about a 1/2 a cup of GT's Gingeraid. Can I use it?
---------- Post added at 05:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:44 PM ---------- I just read that I can use vineger so I think I'm ok

Re: kombucha 101 thread!
Wait! Don't use vinegar until someone confirms that.. I thought they were different cultures?

I think you need the original. That's what I used for my first batch.

White vinegar is fine. Flavored tea not so much. What is it flavored with?

Distilled white vinegar is fine.
Black tea is standard. Storebought is made with all black unless the bottle specially states green was used. I use all black, I'm not a huge fan of green tea. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |

Re: kombucha 101 thread!
My KT is amazing!!!!!!
Last night I opened the strawberry one. It was good but a tad too sweet and I couldn't drink it all. Just now I opened a "gingerberry" and it tastes EXACTLY like Synergy's Gingerberry!!!!!

Re: kombucha 101 thread!
I had some blueberries frozen from when we went and picked them last summer. So I took about a 1/2C and mashed them up with a fork. Then took that juice plus a couple of the berries and put in the bottle. I added about 2-3 small slices of fresh (peeled) ginger. Then put the plain KT in it.
I was going to strain out the blueberry bits and the ginger but discovered little baby scoby's growing during the second ferment, so I left it alone.

Re: kombucha 101 thread!
Good to know regarding the vinegar. I think I have read too much lately that I'm starting to confuse information, lol.

making up a new batch today... I'll check it again in about 3 weeks other than the daily check to make sure it's ok and undisturbed.
