Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
Mine haven't had it either (7, 5 and 2). It's not a routine vax here (UK) but it is offered to older children - maybe 12ish? - who haven't caught it. We will probably go for that if any of them haven't had it by then. I haven't exposed any of them deliberately but since it's not vaxed against, they may have been exposed to it by children who didn't have symptoms at the time.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
We ran titers on dd1 recently. She's immune to chicken pox despite never getting it. She's been exposed to it wild twice, so I suppose that had something to do with it.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
I've tried exposing my kids three or four times to wild pox, and they've never gotten it! I think getting titers done would be good, because I'm starting to wonder. With DD, well, she was vaxed, so that's probably why, but my others weren't.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
I got it naturally at age 9 and my brother was 11 back in the days before the vaccine.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
I wonder if a person DOES get it as an adult or olderchild if doing antivral things ( garlice etc)at same time would help from getting too bad

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
Good question, Mamacat! It would make sense that those things would help curtail it.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
Thats what I am thinking too.If we get viral type things here seem to have less intense versions/heal more quickly because of the things we know to do so it stands to reason it would work for CP virus as well

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
Did your insurance cover the titer test or did you pay out of pocket? If OOP, was it expensive?

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
I contracted cp at the age of 24 or 25. It was no big deal, so getting it later doesn't necessarily mean that it will be a problem.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
My insurance covered it. For all 11 tests, it was nearly $1000 before insurance discounted it to their special pricing. The insurance company paid about $350.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
I've had my titers checked twice during pregnancy and am not immune, despite being exposed more times than I can count. I don't remember what exactly the nurse said, but she explained that some people will never test immune, but still are. My mother also never had cp even when all 4 of her siblings did. My children have never had it either and have been exposed.

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
I am just not going to worry about it.TY mamas - this all helped me come to a better perspective about my dd15 not having had it

Re: My 7-year old still hasn't had Chicken Pox
Oddly enough, I've never had it. I believe Drew had it when he was a kid, but I'll have to ask him how old he was at the time. Timothy had it when he was four. Summer hasn't had it yet. Obviously Vanessa and Aubrey haven't had it yet either.
