Got mine today too! It is really gross how much dirt and dust were pulled out our master bedroom carpet. Most of the first floor is hardwood...tackling the carpeted stairs and second floor tomorrow.

I'm a little too excited about cleaning. If only the enthusiasm would last...

That's what I hate about carpet, and why I was thrilled that this house has hard floors on the entire main floor (only the upstairs bedrooms (girls' room and school/play room) are carpeted). My mom, who's a much better housekeeper than me, maintains that carpet's better because it's too much trouble to have to sweep all the dirt so often. I maintain that there's just as much dirt coming in when there's carpet, it's just TRAPPED in the carpet where it's harder to get to and harder to see and realize you need to deal with it. My floors may look messy some days, but at least when we clean them we know they're truly clean!

I'm considering the Shark deal. Our vacuum that does carpet is literally falling apart.

Just a note to those who may buy a Shark vac on Amazon now or in the future - according to sole reviewers, Shark does not honor the warranty for items purchased on sites like Amazon and ebay where they could be refurbished, etc.

We are in a rental that was built in the 70's. The carpet in the living and dinning rooms is the original and is golden shag. Our LL told us that he was going to replace the carpet but never did. The carpet was getting holes in it. Underneath we saw that the floor was hardwood and looked fairly nice so we are tearing up the carpet ourselves. We figure it's worth not getting our deposit back not to have the shag that has who knows what in it.

I'd been putting off buying a vacuum because when we replaced the belt and mine worked. It died now so I need to get a new one.

Does it come with the caddy? It wasn't in the what you get list so I'm assuming not... Also does it work as well on hardwood floors as carpet?

It doesn't come with a caddy (though it gives several "options" to add more things for more money, so one of those might include a caddy, I don't remember), it comes with a drawstring bag to put all the accessories in.

I haven't tried it on hardwood floors, I usually just have the girls sweep (if it were ME, I'd swiffer (with a washable microfiber thing on it), but they prefer a regular broom If I think about it, I'll suggest to Lexie that she could try vacuuming instead today and see how it works, the floors are HORRIBLE because we got home from travelling and I was sick, so we've been in survival mode, which doesn't include sweeping so it would be a good test LOL.

Yeah, I double checked and the caddy as well as the straight suction nozzle and the home and car detail kit are all in the $99 upgrade.

The steam mop is just for carpets and not hardwood, correct?

the steam mop is for hard floors, I don't think it would work on carpets but didn't specifically pay attention to whether it said it would.

For hardwood I really like the kind of rechargeable vacuums. I used to have a cordless Bissell I loved but they don't make it any longer. I am looking at the Electrolux now.

You got the $199 one without the upgrade, right. And you're really happy with the basic one?
