Supplements for kicking whatever this is (maybe EBV)?
I had an illness that I assume was mono a couple months ago and ever since then I have still been having issues with swollen, tender glands, muscle/body soreness, and fatigue that hits me like a truck. It generally feels like I'm coming down with the flu or something but then I never do. There are days when I feel fine but then there will be days in a row I can barely function.
I plan on making a doctor's appointment in a couple of months (when I will have insurance) if I'm still having symptoms but I'm wondering if anyone who has experienced this can offer any words of wisdom on diet and/or supplements. I already don't eat gluten, eat mainly whole foods, real salt, and I take a quality FCLO but after that I'm clueless. I have read that it would be a good idea to take a multivitamin and extra mag but I don't even know where to start as far as what to look for. Also, would Emergen-c be a good option for vitamin C or is there something better out there?

Do you think that there is a possibility that it could be allergies? I know mine make me feel like that when they are bad. Taking claritin really helps me alot. I experienced similar symptoms, without being able to figure it out. When I started allergy shots, as soon as they injected me and I felt the reaction, I knew the cause of many of my issues was allergies.

Re: Supplements for kicking whatever this is (maybe EBV)?
I had mono back a few years ago. I was in bed for about 3 months. It wiped my immune system and caused me to have roaring fibro.
Fibro feels like the flu without fever and it ebbs and flows in symptoms. When my EBV was raging, we tried a lot of stuff. I had to go weekly to get B12 shots and I started taking zinc daily. It took a while, but it was the only thing that seemed to help with my immune system fighting back. I would get a melt away tab of B12 (we use Infusion Enzymatic from vitacost.......it is $4.99 a bottle vs $10 at the healthfood store.) I get a zinc and take that. I hope you feel better soon. Rest when your body tells you to rest or it will end up making you feel worse so you will listen and rest. Also, when you get checked, you need to rule out Lyme's disease. |

Re: Supplements for kicking whatever this is (maybe EBV)?
Thank you for you responses! I did consider the possibility of allergies but then I thought, could they really make my glands swollen and tender? It's tricky because my symptoms did start up right at the beginning of allergy season but that also happened to be right when I got sick with mono (or whatever it was).
Maedchen, thank you for sharing your experience with me! Reading about fibro and EBV it's hard to tell the difference! It sounds like EBV can be detected by a blood test, though, and fibro can't.

If it is vital L-lysine can help as well. My dh has chronic EBV and CMV and took prescription anti-vitals for a while. The lysine seems to help as much as the prescription did.

Any chance you've had a tick bite? I'd get tested for Lyme.
