Re: Path of Totality...
And so it starts. Dd2 has to work from 9-11 - actually finishing up some training at the country education building. Thankfully for my nerves, it's backroads and nearby (I though she was going to need to be across town at her new work place and have to travel soon after totality). She had to present her badge to get past a guard at a closed gate. There is an eclipse even on the same road today and they have to take extra steps to prevent people parking there.

Re: Path of Totality...
We made our old school box viewers yesterday. I looked at glasses when I first heard about the eclipse in winter and decided I didn't trust them. You have to sure they are the correct rating, kids take them off or peak around them, etc. The box is the safest option. It's supposed to be a little cloudy.

Re: Path of Totality...
We're in the 94ish percent zone (the ish is because I've heard a range of 93 to 95 for our area).
DS will be at school. I'm going to drive over early and watch with his class so I'm not on the road at the peak time. I've seen highway signs warning of heavy traffic. Thankfully I don't use any highways to get to the school. DH works from home and will watch in the cul de sac. We bought glasses a month ago (one pair from Lowe's in Texas and two pair from our Natural Science museum). I checked and made sure they are safe. The school ordered glasses for all of the students. DS wore a baseball cap today to help avoid peeking over the top of the glasses, and we've warned him many times to be cautious.

Re: Path of Totality...
My crew is in the path of totality. My girls are so excited. We have our free glasses and are hanging out in my husbands office till closer to 1. I'm glad we are able to do this for them. They will dive into science and eclipse talks after this and get out their notebooks to remember it all.

Re: Path of Totality...
A bit cloudy here, despite what the weather guy said. Maybe it will clear up soon.

Re: Path of Totality...
We were able to get eclipse glasses for free from a Game, Fish, and Parks event! It wasn't heavily advertised, and only had a small crowd. Woohoo!!!

Re: Path of Totality...
Yay! I was amazed at the prices being charged for these glasses. I just wasnt going to show the kids much. We only came over to campus because they were handing out free glasses to attendees. Well until they ran out anyways. We were here by 8:30 and parking was filling fast. From what I can tell there is no parking left and there hasn't been for a while. I feel a little bad that we aren't attending any of the lectures or demonstrations but my kids are you so much of it will go over their head and it's hot.

Re: Path of Totality...
Dd got home and said it was crazy, even on back roads. Near where she had to go there is a medium sized baseball stadium and they are hosting an event. She said people apparently spent the night in tents.

Re: Path of Totality...
We are in the path, pretty rural area, so not too much traffic, but more than usual. Getting ready to leave right now to head to an eclipse party at my parents. We have lots of trees around our house so we can't see to great here. I do plan on staying in with my two smalls to keep safe (watching on tv), but we have glasses and viewers for everybody.

Re: Path of Totality...
We made cereal box viewers. I didn't realize till last night that we will be able to see something. We are not in the direct path.

Re: Path of Totality...
We got free glasses also at the ski resort. Dh and S rose the lift to the top. G is camping with a friend. The other 3 kids are with me at the base village of the ski resort. It's fun, we take a quick peek every now and then.
It's a bit smoky here from wildfires but we can see the eclipse just fine. |

Re: Path of Totality...
We are at the very edge of totality, at like 96-98%
I was just about to go outside and check it out when I saw this post.

Re: Path of Totality...
Ten minutes to totality. It's like a storm is rolling in and it's getting dark inside, but the sky is blue outside. Definitely a strange lighting and feel out there. Shadows are 'sharp'
