Oh yes...sorry.

To sprout...soak over night, drain in the am, rinse twice and drain as much as you can. Let sit, continue to rinse and drain 3-4x's a day until you see little sprouts coming out of the beans. It depends on the beans....some take 24 hours...some take.....3-4 days.

You don't want then siting in water after the first soak....just slightly damp. you can do this in a jar or some people transfer to a big bowl of colandar once they are doing the "sprouting" part. They also make special sprouting trays....or you can use dehydrator trays to help spread them out and allow more room for drainage and sprouting.

Ooh, good to see this thread. I'm very interested in sprouting but I have sooo little counter space I don't know how to make it work. Even my dish rack has to be a folding one that I can put away so I have free counter space while baking etc. Anyone have any tips on that?

I mostly sprout in a ball jar....1/2 gal size. You can find easy plastic "sprouting lids" that screw right on top wide mouth tops. It makes it easy to rinse and drain since the top itself is a mini strainer. Than you can store the jar anywhere you want since it is all contained.

My dehydrator sits on a table in my garage.

We used to put some baking soda in during the soak...

don't forget that you can also add a couple tbls of crystallized ginger when soaking and cooking. it really doesn't change the flavor, honest....

Well, one cookbook I had said to boil the beans for 3 minutes before cooking, skimming off the foam (the gas-causing stuff). Then to make sure they are cooked thoroughly.

If you are soaking beans to cook you can drain them after their soak. Then rinse really well. Then lay them out a damp paper/kitchen towel that is on a cookie sheet. You can put that sheet in the oven, just don't cook them by accident
