oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
So my youngest came home from school itching head. Needless to say she has head lice. I haven't dealt with this in many years. As a foster mom I did a lot. But anyway I mixed up mayo and tea tree oil together and we all are wearing some fancy shower caps tonight. Let the nit picking commence tomorrow. My oldest didn't have any that I saw but I am treating us all anyway. I hate pesticide treatments because of toxicity.
Any EEO let me know I have shampoo mixing with tea tree and lemon oil to use in the morning to wash with. I do vinegar as well for the nits. But open to any suggestions or natural things you do. Thanks all not like you can post this on FB or anything.

Re: oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
What has totally worked here:
Lots of hair conditioner with multiple comb-throughs with the high end comb. Every time, it's done more than any shampoo or treatment. Coat the hair with conditioner (cheap, with a pump is easiest), and comb it out. Twice a day. And that's it. |

Re: oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
HEAT. High heat was the kicker for getting rid of them for us (and my hair was even longer than yours when we had them). Blow dry on high and flat iron in little sections daily. If you don't have them yet, keep gel or something in your hair and keep it up tight like in a french braid or bun.

Re: oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
You are doing all the things I have done in past only didnt use the TTO.Biggest help for me was knit combing in natural light.Have also heard that blow drying can help because nits and adults are both heat sensitive.

Re: oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
I actually did get that because it came with a metal comb and they didn't sell just combs.

Re: oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
Ugh. My daughter keeps getting lice. We are a snugly family so if she gets lice, we all get lice. I never had lice until I was 30 because of her!
I melted some coconut oil and added tea tree oil. The coconut oil just seems like it coats better. I stuck it on our hair and covered with a cheap plastic hairnet over night. Next day I combed out all the eggs. I actually had better luck using my fingernails to pull out the eggs. For myself only, I soaked my hair with apple cider vinegar and let it dry before applying the oil. Its supposed to dehydrate the lice and nits. It was super soothing to my itchy scalp. My hair smelled sour for a week after, even with repeat shampooing. For a preventive spray, I mixed tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil in water. I spray it on my girls hair every morning as I'm putting their hair up. Haven't had lice since. My boys are easy. I take clippers to their hair and pull out any stragglers. |

Re: oh NO NO NO Lice EWWW
My SIL moved to Ecuador for a year to work in a missionary school. Her four year old went to preschool at the mission's orphanage five days a week. ALL the kids had lice. She sprayed my niece's hair with tea tree oil/water every morning and she never had lice once while they were there!
