Re: Wisdom teeth
The more upright you stay for the next 24 hours, the less swelling. Sleep propped way up if you can. I am glad it went so well!

Re: Wisdom teeth
I did just have the novicane injection. No gas and no pills or shot to make me loopy. One of each type of impaction- full bone, partial bone, soft tissue, one erupted. They went from easiest (erupted) to hardest (fully encased in bone). Details in spoiler since it is gross.
If he knows what to expect and can manage the discomfort and fear all right, just breathe slowly, listen to an mp3 player, relax, he should be fine. But it is not easy and not fun. The surgeon told me that most people with my situation would opt for sedation but a few would not. But if that last one isn't fully encased in bone it probably won't be as bad as I describes I went back for a checkup yesterday. I've been sore, thought it was dry socket but she said they all looked great and it was the jaw joint and muscles. Heat is really helpful for that.

Re: Wisdom teeth
Thank you so much for describing what it was like. That helps. He has the same combo but hopefully no bony impact. He says only 2 are actually causing discomfort. Finally found a regular dentist yesterday who does them - all of the Oral surgs here insist on the sedation and charge like a zillion dollars (we have to pay out of pocket) I am about to call and schedule a consult to find out what the dentist suggests and what dealing with. I wonder if they will still suggest having the ones that dont bother him out? Probably huh?

Re: Wisdom teeth
I think they tend to recommend having them all out, especially when sedation is needed. My left ones, top and bottom, were partially out and causing me to get infections so they absolutely needed to go. I chose to get the other ones out because:
-I didn't want them to erupt later and cause problems while I was pregnant if we are blessed with more children (gum infections and pregnancy don't mix well)- or even while nursing a younger baby -I didn't want to recover from surgery twice -the surgeon said they could cause damage to the roots of the neighboring molars by the way they were angled But no two people/mouths are alike so it is all guesswork. But they absolutely will let you do two and two. It is easier on a younger person, both physically and since responsibilities are fewer.
