Skin tag on tailbone

So our newest dd has one, and the midwife said she could reffer us to a pediatrician if we wanted to have it checked out. I googled it of course, because why would I want to get a little skin tag checked by a ped.? Apparently it can be an indicator of spinal trouble but the same sites talk of a lot of needless medical procedures on little babies. My instincts are to just let it go but I don't want to ignore something potentially very serious because of my distrust of the medical profession. Has anyone else had any experience with this that can give me some perspective?

If it's similar to a sacral dimple, I would get it checked. Sacral dimple is a midline defect as is tongue tie and lip tie. Most of the time it's not a problem, but I would want someone who knows more to have a look.

Is your ped conservative in general? I know that mine is, and as a result, I wouldn't mind seeing her about something. How old is your daughter? She's not in your sig yet

It probably would be good to look into - if it really DOES indicate something internal that needs any assistance, it's best to do it while she's young.

Apparently it is similar to a sacral dimple. Dd1 had a dimple and the nurse in the NICU said make sure to clean that. End of discussion. Dd2 has no dimple that I can see just the tag. I don't already have a ped. I would have to go to the one they refer me to. Oh, she is 2 wks old.
