I taught martial arts and I'm baffled. Martial arts was called a way of life, there wouldn't be any separating the darker issues from that.

What about starting with posters that tie directly into martial arts values?

For example, a reminder that martial arts is for self-defense, not bullying, with whatever slogan you already use to drill that point home. THEN a smaller blurb under that with a link to further info about what constitutes abuse, and/or a slogan like, "No one deserves to be hit." Or some kind of self-esteem poster with a martial arts picture, with a suicide hotline in smaller print underneath.

In other words, even if you have to design the posters yourself, start with ones that reinforce what the school is already teaching. Normalize having posters in there. Gradually inch toward planting a seed before asking to put up the more direct versions. Make the logical connection of how this relates to the school subtly enough for the leaders to accept the posters, but people who are affected might pause enough to linger on that smaller print, see where to get further info/help. People who want to see only the positive can focus on the larger picture, while those who have a sense that something is wrong can focus on that small voice that makes the fine print shout to be heard.

Thank you. Those are good ideas

DH finally got a chance to talk to his coworker. She said her main concern was that the posters are so big and in your face that they could be triggering, and they were too big for the space. Supposedly they are going figure out a way to make something smaller and less triggering.

Quiteria, I will pass along what you wrote.

They can also be placed at a height the five and six year olds might not notice if they want them less obvious for that age.

Yes, they could be placed higher and in smaller print.

I also had the thought that a child who is being bullied might ask for martial arts lessons. Children who are bullied can develop depression and become suicidal.

When I see that kind of media here, it's usually either a printer size page in a plexi frame in the bathroom so you see it when you pee, or that size or slightly larger glossy picture above or next to a business card holder thing with resource info on it. They tend to be basic text with a non-pictoral background.

I'm so glad you guys kept on and are working towards some solutions.

At the DMV last week the bathroom had both the suicide prevention poster and the abuse poster. They were clearly printed from a basic office printer on 8-1/2x11 and simply take up on the door at adult eye level. Good luck.

An aside, it stinks to know that some would be triggered by such a posting but if it is talked about more with less stigma of shame then maybe just maybe we can make it so less women and children have the background experiences that would make such signs potentially triggering.

Edited post..... Sorry just realized this is public forum. There’s little to be done to. Prevent triggering. I’d keep the poster. Triggering people is worth the cost of saving lives

~removed info but I’m someone whose experienced in dealing w people w suicidal tendencies. But cannot say lore in “public”

Definitely keep working on it. It sounds as if the woman co-owner is more open to it, thigh cautious. There should be a wide variety of posters available that allow for a variety of ages seeing them.
