Dressing for Taco Salad
My blood sugar hasn't been where it should be and my family was having tacos, it smelled so good, so i decided to have a taco salad, but i couldn't figure out a dressing that wouldn't taste weird (because i just wanted a taco really)
Enough for one serving 2 Tbsp Light Sour Cream 2 Tbsp Taco meat 1 Tbsp Salsa and 1-2 tsp water to make it thinner. It was soooo yummy |

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
Sounds yummy!! I never know what dressing to put on our taco salad. Ranch or vinaigrette just doesn't seem right. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
yup that's a yummy dressing - Texas steakhouse serves a fajita salad and their dressing is just chunky salsa mixed with sour cream. delicious!

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
My step-sister uses Catalina dressing. I never even ate it before, but it works really well. It's kind of tomatoey I guess.

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
my taco salads look like this (this is literally the order i put it on my plate):
slightly crushed white corn tortilla chips, lettuce, taco seasoned ground meat (beef or chicken but usually turkey), refried beans, shredded cheese, salsa, ranch dressing and olives. YUMMY! though it likely wouldn't help your blood sugar. |

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
We don't use a dressing as such. We build them like this:
Crispy iceberg lettuce and Fritos (no substitutions!). Grated cheese. Hot taco meat, slightly soupy. (We fry it up, rinse off any fat, then add taco seasoning, salsa, and water, and simmer briefly.) Chopped onion and tomato. Sour cream or yogurt. Salsa. Chopped avocado. Fork!

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
That sounds really good!
DH's favorite salad dressing is salsa. It doesn't have to be on a taco salad, just any mix of greens. I like the addition of a little sour cream or ranch, though.

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
Yeah, I have a very specific order in which my taco salad must be built.
In a bowl: Crunched chips A wee bit of lettuce Taco meat Cheese Tomato/onion Salsa Topped with a dollop of sour cream. |

Re: Dressing for Taco Salad
We make ours like this:
* Lettuce * Drained beans (pinto, red, black - whatever) * Drained corn * "Salsa" (I'm usually throwing this together, so I typically use a can of Red Gold tomatoes "Mexican fiesta" and drain it some) * Dressing: mashed avocado mixed with sour cream and a bit of lime juice * Conchitas (corn chips - like fritos) |
