Re: Scary article about the danger of GMO
I agree, GMO foods and their consequences are terrifying.
The problem is that they are SO hard, if not nearly impossible, to avoid anymore. It's so overwhelming and discouraging.

Re: Scary article about the danger of GMO
I worry about GMOs, too, but I’m a little skeptical about a scientific article with zero footnotes. Where are the links to these studies, or at least citations that they were published in reputable, peer-reviewed journals? Still it is worth looking into, but an article with no citations is hard for me to trust.

Re: Scary article about the danger of GMO
I have an app that I just found out about that lets you scan the barcode of the product you are buying and it will tell you if it contains ingredients or are made by people who you may not like to support. You input which products/companies/causes you wish to avoid and it gives you alternatives. For example, mine shows up if its a Nestle product, or a company who uses underpaid labour or is fair-trade etc.
Not sure if it just works in Australia but its called "Buycott". I've found it to be very handy

https://www.statnews.com/2016/01/04/...-fiona-godlee/ Can we really trust doctors and researchers and journals anymore? Neither of these links were the one I was looking for, but both are interesting.

Re: Scary article about the danger of GMO
Journals are not perfect but they are the best we have. Linking to actual studies so people can read them is necessary. One of the problems with journals is drawing inaccurate conclusions from reading the studies either not thoroughly enough or with bias, looking for certain evidences. Sometimes studies are poorly designed and that is only obvious if you have the full text. It is possible to lie with statistics and studies- linking back to the originals provides a safety mechanism for that. Still, not perfect, but I know of nothing better.

Re: Scary article about the danger of GMO
Erin,
Did you read the links I posted? I was looking for a discussion on those. I agree with you in principle. I link to the actual studies whenever I feel an issue is worth looking more into. Have you read any actual studies on GMO dangers?

I do not remember reading any studies on it. I do worry about them but I also find the idea of avoiding them very overwhelming. I do buy organic tofu when I buy tofu and try to eat more Whole Foods, but trying to avoid all GMOs would be impossible for me! I wish they would just ban them (not talking about cross breeding, which is also kind of genetically modifying, but which doesn’t scare me).
