Positive Discipline - Week 7
Hello Ladies, sorry I am really behind the ball this week. Busy, busy; and forgetting what I've been practising.
Anyways, here is the link for this week. http://blog.positivediscipline.com/2...onnection.html Special time. Do you do it? I've always struggled with this, unless you can count story time...I mean what do you do with the other kiddos whilst you are special timing with one? Any good tips?

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 7
I'd like to do more of this as well. Dh and I want to start a new tradition of each of us taking a child out to eat or something like that. We've only done it once but would like to figure out how to do something like that more often. I do appreciate the heart to heart talks that I have with my children and I learn so much about them during these times.

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 7
Well, I still haven't gotten to making those routine charts I want to make, but it just so happens that at our family meeting on Sunday, we let each of our children choose a parent to go on a date with, and over the next three weekends, we will take each one of them on a special date. Next time around we will switch which parent goes with which child.
I do think the 10 minutes a day for my younger ones would be really beneficial. I'm going to work towards doing that.

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 7
I am not good about scheduling special time on a regular basis, although with only one child, she does get a lot of individual attention. I find that when I get too busy with whatever grown-up things I have to do, DD suddenly becomes whiny and helpless, constantly needing my attention for something. At those times, it's very helpful to tell her that at 4:00 (or whatever time) I will stop my work and spend half an hour playing with her. It's not magic, but it does help both of us.

I played Hungry Hippos with ds1 yesterday. Does it still count as special time if all the other kids ended up joining in by the time we were done?

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 7
Oh! This reminds me that for awhile I was going on a walk in the park with a different child each day (M-Th), and it was really nice. I think I'll try to start that again.
I'm so glad you're posting these, marigold. Thank you!

Re: Positive Discipline - Week 7
I think will be very helpful...I need to make sure I do it. With the new baby, I notice that the days I set apart 10-15 minutes to play and totally focus of DS he is much easier going and calmer. We have a lot less tantrums and whining.
