Default High Vitamin D level

What would cause a high vitamin d level in a child who is not taking supplements or meds that would effect it? She normally runs really low.

That is odd. Could you share how high it is? Why was she being tested?

The level was 127. She was tested because she normally runs low, so they keep an eye on it. She hasn't had supplements in at least two months. We were told it can't be that high from food or sun exposure. Especially where we live

What did the Dr say? Just to watch it? How old is she? What dose was the supplement when she was taking it? Any medications that might increase D? Food is generally considered not an issue.

I would ask for a recheck. That just doesn't make any sense. So that's where I would start my investigation.

My first thought was lab error.

The neurologist ordered it, she told us to go to the dr handling it. Our old neurologist was the one handling it. This one doesn't think your vit. D could be too high Next week C sees her pedi, and immunologist. I will run it past them, or endo.
Her dose was 2000 daily, and she was running 20-30 on that. She hasn't taken it in a couple of months though.
No meds, checked into that. Her mito cocktail has L-Carnintine in it, it's advertised as a fat metabolizer, (Vitamin D is stored in fat) but from what I can find, there is no risk of Vitamin D toxicity from that. Even sunshine in my neck of the woods wouldn't cause that much of a jump.
Oh, and she's nine. I need to update my sig.

I thought lab error also, the dr said it was re-checked. She will need other labs next week, so maybe a new sample? But yea, it doesn't make sense.

If she's having labs I would want her calcium checked too. Does she have any symptoms of toxicity?

I know my endo waned labs to show at least 100 - I haven't read anything about problems with it being "too high". Do you have some information on that? I'm curious.

I was told that the supplements were to be taken for however long, and then wait, and the levels rise during the waiting period. So it sounds like her body did what was expected.

She's been taking 2,000-4,000 daily with some breaks for at least 3 years. She pretty consistently stays low. She has an endocrine dr, he just stays on the fringes because he doesn't feel the primary issue is something he can treat. But I can give him a call.

Here are a couple of articles:
http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Vit...hProfessional/
http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Vit...hProfessional/

Some labs cite 125 as toxic, some cite 150. There are reports of it occurring as low as 80.

I have a call into the neurologist to see if we can do a calcium level. If not, she sees her new pediatrician Tuesday, and I will check then.
Symptoms- increased fatigue and weakness, we just put that off to mito. Nervousness- C is almost always nervous, and increased urination. She is being treated for a UTI that just wont go away. She's been telling me off and on that she hears snakes in her ears, maybe she means ringing?

Arms of Love- I forgot to mention, it isn't the vit D that causes the symptoms, too much vitamin d can cause hypercalcemia, that is what causes the symptoms. So it would seem reasonable that for certain things, a higher level is beneficial.
