Anyone have the cheapie Kindle Fire?
I am thinking it might' be nice to have a Kindle. I loved my iPad but it's first generation. It can't be updated, books close or won't download. Mostly it is just a bribe or a way to keep my younger two busy.
I'm due with another baby which means lots of nursing and book reading. I figure it will be a big step up from my iPad. It's the Fire that is 34.99 currently.

Re: Anyone have the cheapie Kindle Fire?
I think that's the one I have - it was $100 last Christmas when I got it. (We have a 1st gen i-pad as well.) The Kindle is a great little tablet. My only complaint is that the battery life isn't long enough. That may have been addressed by now, though.
For reading, though the Paperwhite is awesome! It's a lot lighter and thinner and the battery lasts forever, the e-ink format really is easier to see. I think it's easier to navigate from screen to screen as well, but the internet function takes a little longer than the Fire. I initially wanted the Fire because kids picture books don't look good in black and white. I thought it would replace my paperwhite, but I read on it most nights before bed (it lives under my pillow!).

Re: Anyone have the cheapie Kindle Fire?
We have two kindle fires and I don't like them at all. The OS is extremely frustrating. I have a Samsung S3 and a basic kindle eReader (which are more expensive than the fires ). I love love love my eReader and use it every single day. When it dies, I will replace it immediately, probably with a paperwhite.
As far as tablets go, I would get a Samsung over a fire in a heartbeat. Android OS will be a bit of an adjustment after an iPad but it's far more intuitive and functional than the fire OS, IMO. |

Re: Anyone have the cheapie Kindle Fire?
I've just bought a couple, so no idea how they will work, but at that price I couldn't hardly pass it up. I have a paperwhite e-reader and I love it. I don't see myself using the fire to actually read with, but I will like it for audiobooks, especially since my galaxy (phone) that I usually use just got thrown and broken My dd has an older kindle that I've used a few times, I don't mind the OS, we also have an 3rd generation ipad that belongs to ds, and while it is a little easier to use, the price difference is just so great I don't I could justify it when a kindle is $35. I did notice this new generation does have a camera, which is nice.

Where is the $35 one? I'm only seeing $50.

Re: Anyone have the cheapie Kindle Fire?
Not to discourage you from buying a new device, but sometimes you can trick the iPad into taking apps that otherwise cannot be downloaded. I have a first gen, too, and I've been able to put things into iTunes on my laptop then sync it with the iPad & voila, there it is. You should be able to Google instructions.
