would like to start making green whole juice in my vita mix
someone please tell me how to do this without using too much fruit( i do not do well with lots of fruit with my blood sugar) and in a way that it tastes decent. HELP
I think I need to do some green stuff more. I NEED high protein though. I would just go vegetarian but I always feel sick on rice and grains and carbs, even too much veggies makes me ill. it is like my body needs fat and protein more than any other kind of nutrient. bu tI want to start doing a green drink from my vita mix a couple of times a day. any body do this and got a receipi to share? |

Re: would like to start making green whole juice in my vita mix
I make a green lemonade, and I know others here do, too - each recipe is slightly different. for mine, I use the juice of one lemon and one green apple. Then I add a couple handfuls of greens and, if it's too strong, I add a bit of agave for sweetness. If you have a blender, you can always add some ground flaxseed for protein. And, sometimes I add 1/2 an avacodo to my lemonade, too - in the blender.

Re: would like to start making green whole juice in my vita mix
Are you only looking for a sweet drink? What about making a tomato based veggie/greens juice? I don't have a recipe, but I'd try for a V-8 style, plus greens. So, if it were me, I might try adding your greens, tomatoes, carrots, a lil' celery/parsley perhaps? you could also add some beets if you like their flavor. Cool in the summer, and you could even have it warm in the winter, like a cup of soup
I love my green juice/smoothies, but we use a lot of fruit, so the recipes I'm using probably won't help. |

Some of our favorites are: Strawberry, Banana, orange juice and Kale. Mangoes, blueberries and spinach. Pineapple, Mangoes, Papaya, Strawberry and Spinach. We go with a blend of about 60 fruit/40 greens. Sometimes I add other things in... my favorite and totally unhealthy--and-defeats-the-purpose add in, is a Sugar-free Red Bull instead of juice. We're not vegan, so sometimes for the kids I'll add in some vanilla yogurt, and my friend adds cubed tofu to the blender for added protein. Spinach and Kale are the only greens we've tried... sometimes if I don't have a juice to add, I'll add in a little water and honey. I prefer using 100% fruit juice when I can, because I don't like to water down the flavor. So... since ours are primarily sweet/fruit related, I'm not sure they'll work for you, but your kids might like them My 5year old balked a little at first until I told him the green was only a color, it wasn't a flavor. |

Wheat Grass, Spinach/kale, apple/pineapple juice concentrated either pre purchased or you can reduce it on the stove, and kiwi

Re: would like to start making green whole juice in my vita mix
thanks!!
do you guys think that kale is better than parsley.....I couldn't find kale and this parsley is soooooooooo bitter in a drink. is kale even more bitter??? which one is easiest to start out with , esp if I have to cut down on the fruit or juice due to sugar problems?? I am even thinking of romaine lettuce, I need something that is not TOO TOO bitter. what about celery? |

Re: would like to start making green whole juice in my vita mix
Both parsley and celery have a distinct flavor. I think the flavor would bleed through in a smoothie/juice, so you'd want to make sure you used something that blends well with it. I would use those in a more vegetable dominant drink rather than fruit based. Kale and Spinach both blend into the drink so you don't really taste it. I have heard of using Romaine with fruit also. Generally if you're looking for health benefits, the darker/greener the better.

For ds, I usually make him a *slushie* - ice, apple juice, and some frozen berries and some mild greens. He loves it.

Re: would like to start making green whole juice in my vita mix
I am confused...
Vitamix is not a "juicer" ... all you would be getting is a smoothie as it does not seperate the pulp from the juice. Now, as far as Kale is concerned, it is EXELLENT in smoothies....my fav is kale/bananas/strawberries/almond butter/rice milk or yogurt. In my opinion it is not bitter. |
