stepping into the realm of 'normal'
I don't mean Standard American Diet, but we need to move back towards a more normal diet. Normal meaning real, whole foods. Dh has expressed tiring of even the yummy paleo stuff, we really really need to cut our food budget, and I'm ready to try G on dairy (praying he might be ok with yogurt. That's all I want, not milk, maybe cheese, but really just yogurt). I seem to be ok with moderate amounts of sourdough (gluten) bread. Haven't tried me or Z on dairy yet. Z is about to be 1 and a ferocious eater so he's going to be added into the equation too. Hopefully we'll still be nursing for 2 or 3 more years but I need to cut back on my 'I'm a nursing mom' snacks. So my goals are:
3 meals a day, snacks at 10 and 3 4 veggies and 1 fruit a day for me 2 veggies and 1 fruit a day for G (this is a big goal) 1 grain-less meal, 1 GF grain meal (most likely rice) and 1 gluten containing meal. Beans in some form almost every day, for budget reasons I'll be shopping at the farmer's market Wednesday and Saturday and meal planning 3-4 days at a time, which will hopefully be more successful than a week at a time which is always so off course by the end of the week. We will limit eating out to special occasions and maybe a snack at the cafe by the market on Sat after shopping. How does this sound? I'm trying to tone myself down from a year or more of too much controlling eating habits.

Re: stepping into the realm of 'normal'
I think it sounds good. Cutting the food budget is hard.

Re: stepping into the realm of 'normal'
yes, yes it is. especially when I know too much to cut the quality of meat, so it's the quantity that's going down. Right now I'm thinking it's a very good thing that DH will tolerate soup in the cooler parts of the year

I think you've made a great start
I think the key to success is making small, manageable steps, which you are doing. Keep us in the loop and let us know how you are going so we can encourage you and get some tips ourselves too

Barley picks up and carries the delicious meat flavor very well. So do potatoes.

Re: stepping into the realm of 'normal'
We have been trying to do best we can. Find it helpful to buy large bags of quality non GMO alternative pesticide bags of vegies and fruit at Sams to have on hand to steam and eat. Sweet potatoes eat quite a bit of and just keep it simple. Chicken potatoe and steamed peas. That kind of thing. Frozen fruit for snacks

Re: stepping into the realm of 'normal'
Just an update: It's been kind of freeing to relax my craziness a bit. We've tried G on goat's milk yogurt and he's tolerating it just fine! And eating so well these days. His appetite and pickiness were what I was really looking for in terms of dairy sensitivity and he's been doing great. Most days we've made the vegetable goal! I explained to him that this was part of getting to eat the yogurt (plain yogurt with a little honey and you'd think I gave him a bowl full of ice cream he's so excited) and he knows, 2 vegetables a day. The only hard part I'm having is keeping us stocked on veggies when I can't shop several times a week and our freezers are full of other stuff right now. And everyone is liking beans right now
