I'm sitting here with ginseng and oil of oregano...
... and now I read that breastfeeding moms can't take either. Hubby brought them home for me from town, so I didn't get to chat with the pharmacist like I usually do. WHY can't I take them is my question. Will either harm her? She's also sick with a cold. Can she (almost 19 months) take a low dose of the oil of oregano? The bottle I have is diluted in olive oil and an adult dose is 4 drops.

Re: I'm sitting here with ginseng and oil of oregano...
I have read that oregano in larger amounts can decrease milk supply so that is likely to be the reason. Personally I wouldn't give the oil to my toddler but I have heard of it being given to children as young as three. If I were you I would look for other herbs with similar actions that are very safe and gentle for toddlers and breastfeeding mothers.
Ginseng has a strong action. Again, I would feel more comfortable using gentler herbs. I came across this link you might find helpful. I know you already have these but could you send hubby back for something else? Last edited by Damselfly; 01-28-2011 at 12:21 PM. |

Re: I'm sitting here with ginseng and oil of oregano...
depends on the kind of oregano oil. if you have north american oreganol P73. you will both be fine with it, they use to have the dosage and directions on line but i cant find them at the moment. But not all oregano oils are alike in the phenols or how they are grown so i wouldnt use it unless the company said you would be fine with it.
eta:you could boil some in water and hang out in the room. that should be fine.? Last edited by me; 01-31-2011 at 03:37 PM. |
